My guess is 5-8 major Portal hits as starters for next year. Roughly 30% of next year's starting lineup were developed elsewhere this season. Not a good pattern.

Not necessarily. I believe 10 or so of Miami's starters are portal guys. I don't know Texas Tech's number, but I'd be shocked if it wasnt at least 10 portal guys starting.

Probably similar numbers for Texas Tech this year, so not too concerned about numbers. Rather, I'm more worried about portal quality to fill our needs. We don't seem to be in the running for a lot of the bigger fish names in the portal. I'm not a fan of going after G5 and lower to fill starter needs either. Almost threw up in my mouth saying this, but going to have to trust the staff's evaluation skills this cycle.

What about LBer? Merritt seems promising if he stays healthy. Anybody hear anything about Christian Jones.

This position is such a frustrating lack of development. Vincent Shavers seems to have gotten worse over the course of the last two seasons. He seems slow and out of position A LOT

Shavers has had a cast on his hand for the better part of the season. Can't blame him too much for struggling under those conditions.

Can't miss from the portal next year like we did with Watson-Trent. That guy is so beyond worthless.

I honestly can't remember a worse player playing quality minutes. Hate to say it but that dude was trash.

I think there are some young pieces on defense to build around. Really hoping that the new DC has some good position coaches coming with him. Snow needs to get lost

Fill in the blanks with a mid 3* or walk-on or overhyped 4* that a top 30 school is washing so we can get excited for nothing.

There are 4000 players in the portal, literally. Teams have two weeks to fill all their needs. If your team has been blown out 3 straight times, twice by interim coaches, you need to clean house as much as possible. The 2nd unit drop off on defense was historic, and the 1st unit wasn't that great. They aren't getting coached, so we need to buy ready-made players. Begs the question. What are we paying the coaches for? If all of the players that contribute are already made, somebody else coached them up, then the fans are just paying for what the coaches should be doing, which is improving players. I am increasingly for hiring a general manager, a game manager, some play callers, and the next head coach makes a million. I don't think they matter.

We haven't had a player who could a first down on 3rd and short, we can't extend drives, and we can't protect the defense. Stick somebody back there who can get tough yards, extend drives. Hit an 8 yard route on 3rd and 7, and punt for field position. We aren't winning 6 games next year, Rhule is just going to keep us from losing the 5 winnable games.

I agree with everything but the last part. But I think he can get better. Sophomore slump is what I'm hoping.
