Barring some mishap it is Tanner's job to lose. I'm guessing he's just a bit more polished. You could see the chemistry on the sideline. He's a leader that others are following. That is a good thing.

I understand why this is being done now. So if O'Brien transfers so be it. It is big time, big boy football. Competition is the coin of the realm.

What this tells me too is that Lee clearly was the better QB and that due to that fact the coaches saw no reason to drag things out. If the competition was real close with a razor's edge of difference, I doubt they name a starter now.

It was a good laugh watching all of the receivers gather around him and 'gushing' over him during his interview after the spring game. You can tell they like him.

Not much of a surprise, but the timing of the announcement surprises me. I hope O'Brien doesn't transfer as he saw first hand last year, that the starter can go down and the backup is needed. It also isn't like he is buried on the depth chart. I could see him look elsewhere, if Gebbia passes him on the depth chart after his redshirt season, but you never know.

Where is all the O'Brien transfer talk coming from? Is it a real possibility or just speculation?

it is speculation based on the appearance that, forgetting about redshirts, the talent ranking of the QBs goes

1. Lee
2. Gebbia
3. too close to call Obrien/Bunch

It doesn't matter if it's real or speculation. By not naming a starter until the week before the first game, you pretty much eliminate any possibility of it happening. By naming someone this early, it keeps that possibility on the table.

But it also probably means that they are comfortable with the amount of depth they have if someone decides to transfer.

From what I have heard of Lee is he is so good he will be in the NFL next season.

And you heard it from???? I am sure they are all NFL scouts? I hope he is next coming of Tom Brady or whomever you want to name but saying he is NFL ready next season? I hope so as it means we should have a great year but I am not ready to cash the checks just yet.

Well, for one thing it goes beyond one scrimmage i.e. the spring game. For a second thing, this isn't the coaches first rodeo.

Now there's a saying that hasn't been ridden until the carcass is rotting and birds are carrying away the last scraps.

Good problem to have. Better than arguing between Fyfe, AJ Bush and Darlington. Welcome to big boy football and big boy recruiting. GBR

Yep. Been a long time since we have had the #1 and then ................................................................

I get the concern about a possible transfer but if basically everyone on this board has been saying for weeks and weeks that Lee looks like the guy, don't you think POB probably saw the same thing? Now Lee can get more reps with the 1s and become the leader of the team, that's more important than placating a guy who may or may not transfer and as of now is an inferior player.
