Rebuilding is one thing. Starting with 0 players it’s totally different.
Not at all. It's happening constantly now all over the countrym. We weren't far off from doing it again this year. Oweh is the only returning player that was a major contributor last year. Garrison was a backup and Chandler/Noah were essentially bench warmers.

When he’s asked about injuries, his responses are exactly the same as Cal’s when he was here. He never elaborates. And I don’t think it’s a HIPPA thing either.

Imo its nil. Right now the market is so heavily in the players' favor, they just aren't playing through anything more than minor bumps and bruises. If I were in their shoes, id do the same. If you stand to make millions if you are healthy, id do everything to stay healthy.

Since Pope cant say that, he just rambles on to take up time. Until this nil market comes down to earth, this is how it will be. We cant play the victim. This last cycle, we were one of the key players in spending.

Chandler got quite a bit of run and so did Garrison. It’s way different having 5 upperclassmen returning who know the system, rather than nobody. Teams replace 6-7 guys all over yes but replacing all 15 doesn’t happen hardly anywhere unless the coach is fired. Even then they usually retain 1-2 of the good players.

What's interesting is Noah got more than Chandler. So that should tell you neither played much. Both were used strictly out of desperation.

We only have 4 returrners, 2 of which are upperclassmen. One of those two is Garrison, who a lot don't even want.

Replacing full rosters is happening constantly now. You literally have to re-recruit your own players annually. That's just the facts. Didn't South Carolina just do it the year before us and end up with similar results?

Not to mention, it's not like Pope was restricted from bringing players with him. In fact, he brought his best one. The others chose not to follow.

…..with the vague injury updates from Pope. Look, these guys are getting paid. Every game has a line on it.
There should be detailed injury reports like their are in the NBA and NFl.

This is a totally different ballgame than when they were amateurs. They’re paid pro’s now. Let the public know exactly the injury and the timeline for return.
Frankly it’s none of your business. You knowing isn’t gonna get them on the court faster. Those kids still have a right to privacy just like we do when we go to the doctor.

chandler got over 300 minutes which is nearly 11 minutes pg. that’s not a bench warmer. lol. Garrison was a focal point of the rotation the entire year. That guy is absolutely just making **** up I’d stop listening to it. He’s twisting and turning to make things sound how he wants them to. “Essentially bench warmers”. Garrison was “just a backup”.

clearly a troll. He doesn’t even make sense half the time.

I tried... SO ******* HARD.. to explain this to some of you (generally speaking). I could probably find 20 variants of the same response I've made. Cal was rightfully blamed for a lot of things, but there were some things like this, being unfairly pinned to him. If you follow ANY other sport, you'd see that these injury reports are always vague. Follow any NFL week, it's a crap shoot if like 60 guys will play or not on any given Sunday. Basketball? Same thing. Hockey? You don't even get body part specifics, you just get upper body or lower body.

Coaches and sports teams are not going to give you some crazy detailed medical report on the players so we as the fans can know exactly what's going on, mostly because THEY (coaches and players) don't even know the full extent. But also, they don't care to spend time on this. They know a player is banged up, and they will know at some point whether he's able to play or not. Sometimes thats a game time decision. And to your point, it's not HIPPA either, never was. This is simply a coaches and organizations basically saying "We know he's injured, thats about it, and thats about all we care to tell you" 90% of the time, unless it's something serious and concrete, such as a concussion, ACL tear, etc.

It was infuriating hearing this pinned on Cal like he was doing something out of the norm. Im glad Cal is gone and very glad we have Pope instead. Cal had a lot of issues in the end, but this was one of those things some fans just tried to pin to him and just refused to take 5 seconds to realize this happens across all sports.

Im an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and you’re right, the specifics on injuries are very thin. I will say, however, I’ve never seen a coach play a game with the alumni and fans the way Calipari did. You could see how much fun he had intentionally saying stupid sht when it came to injuries. “I haven’t seen him” to name just one.

What most coaches do is give you some kind of understanding in some way of how and what is going on. It might not be specific that’s true. And there are people here who want all these specifics and I don’t even understand why sometimes because the knowledge of the situation isn’t making them play faster lol. Calipari is gone so no other coach that I’ve ever heard of will allow players to sit routinely if healthy. We don’t have to worry about this with Mark. If you can play and won’t, Mark will probably explain that to some degree.

Mark isn’t here to f around he’s here to hang banners. He wants to be a Kentucky legend as a player and a coach. We don’t have to worry about injuries. If they aren’t playing they can’t play. And us knowing the full injury report isn’t something that happens. You don’t want the rest of the teams having that kind of knowledge. Let them waste time in practice focusing on a guy they don’t know if he will play or not lol.

I think some people didn’t play sports so it’s just a misunderstanding of how this works. Mark is doing his best to inform us without informing the rest of the world what the status of the player is. I too get irritated constantly seeing the injure sht. We all get it, but that’s not something a smart coach is going to do - send an injury report to Nate oats before the Alabama game lol.

Yeah I definitely think, now that time has passed, that this was a divorce in the making for several years. Cal was sparring with the fans. He certainly wasnt giving them anything. But we started to see his injury stance questioned as far back as the mid 2010s, when we were on the top of the world.

Still, the coach isnt always goingnto do what rhe fans want, say what the fans want. I personally dont believe Pope is going to force players out there if they are compromised. For starters hes too nice for that and second, the coaches are going to protect their guys. They have an obligation to them. This isn't gonna be the last time we see a player maybe sit a little longer, whether its Pope, Cal or the next guy. Thats the nature of this game now. Its not the 80s and 90s

Why should a college coach concern himself with you placing a stinking bet on his team when discussing injuries. What a crock. He is coach at the Univetsity of Kentucky not a bookie. As for them being paid how does that entitle you to know the exact details of thier recovery status. Just another stupid attempt to criticize Pope.

I don't really see it as entitlement. Without the fans spending their money to watch the players play, these guys wouldn't be making millions to play a game or coach it. I believe that sports does owe the fans that support it. That's not entitlement, it's return on investment.
“That’s not entitlement, it‘s return of investment”. Pure comedy gold. Sounds like a line from The Righteous Gemstones. Never change Phil, never change.

Thanks for admitting you can't argue against anything I said. I always appreciate when people are honest.

Colin Chandler didn't break 5 minutes in almost half the games he played, FYI. But yea, he was a basically a starter. :ROFLMAO:

We are really but it doesn’t seem to work that way. The problem is people will stay invested no matter how they are treated. We learned that with Cal. We are like a battered wife. No matter how bad we are treated we still hang around and take more.

Nope. Just understand privacy rights when it comes to college kids and injuries.
Hippa doesn’t cover coaches. They could announce what they know if they wanted. He doesn’t give a timeline because it’s probably a no win situation. If they are out longer than the Drs anticipate he will be crucified. Saying nothing is the smartest move. And he’s a smart guy.
If someone tears an ACL Pope will announce it when the tests are back. For a sore shoulder and leg. What’s he gonna say?

I’ll critique him on one thing, he should have yanked Jasper out against Georgetown for going hero ball, jacking contested 3s up left and right, then gave him a “humbling” pep talk. All I got, but I don’t get paid to coach the team about to win #9.

I still do not understand why our fans feel like they are “owed” details on things like injuries. I didn’t understand when everyone bitched about Cal’s lack of information shared and I don’t understand people complaining about Pope.

This is sports, and furthermore, we are talking about health related matters. I’m not an attorney, but I would assume that anything shared would need to be approved by the player due to HIPPA laws, but maybe I’m wrong.

To his credit the guys actually played or tried to play exactly when they said the timeline would be for their injuries. Both Butler and JR came back ASAP and tried to gut it out. Same goes for Carr, he had a terrible back the second half of the year and almost always suited up. No doubt Cal would have kept them out and never said a word about it.

I’d love to know exact details as would everyone but it is medical data and there are things they can’t say. I wish he had definitive timelines, but maybe even he doesn’t at this moment.
Pope under promises and over delivers. I like it.
