Those locations were made prior to hurricane Matthew. Nchsaa.org now has sites listed as TBD. Not sure if things will change now.

i saw nothing that would interfere with typical game times in Winston and chapel hill. Hurricanes have a home game at 7. I remember one year there was an event at pnc like Disney or something. I'm sure Disney outdrew the hurricanes. That may be the only change needed.

I think venues should be determined after the regional finals. Also, would like to see two locations. Each site gets s Friday night game and three Saturday games.

I'm thinking the problem is with Carter-Finley since the Hurricanes play that Friday and Saturday at home. Possibly host 2 games.

UNC has no home basketball game that weekend. Could possibly host 3 games

BB&T Field could host 3 games.

Looking forward to see what happens.

Regardless of the venue, the 12:00/12:30 start time games are horrible. Would love to see the games spread out across a 4th venue or any other solution that resulted in NO 12:00 start time.

If they would go back to the way it use to be and just rotate back and forth from East to West it would be so much better. Playing these games in these big venues that hold 50 to 75,000 fans and you only have 10,000 to me is ridiculous . The environment at each team school makes for a great atmosphere . I know the NCHSAA will never change this because of greed and the money they make. But if they ever would then they wouldn't have all these scheduling conflicts . But that would be way to easy.

This might be a good solution if the site were required to have a seating capacity of 10,000.
I remember in 1983 attending the game between Thomasville and Eastern Randolph. Got there more than two hours before the game. The best "seat" I could find was to stand on the sideline five yards deep in the end zone. I literally missed over half of a really good game. The topic of conversation on both sides that night was how they should have moved the game to Simeon Stadium in High Point. I hope they never go back to those types of arrangements. Very few true high school stadiums can handle a state championship game, especially on the visitors' side.

Games should be played at NC A&T, Simeon Stadium, and Bowman Grey. Imagine the atmosphere of the smaller venues.

I did not include Elon because the away side is smaller than the home side. So if anyone wants Elon, they can go tell all the fans that have to sit on the crappy side themselves.

After the upgrades at Wallace Wade, it's time for Duke to be back in the rotation.
Duke was too inhospitable during the times they played games there. One year they had a game on Sunday afternoon before Christmas because they were playing a basketball game in Cameron. Let's see Cameron holds 8,800 and at most 7.000 -8,000 at a high school football game and they can accommodate that?

AT Duke the press row would only seat maybe 10 to 15 media personnel. I remember leaving a venue to watch the 4A championships at Duke and I if you were not there from the beginning it was 5 deep standing room only for the media there.
The renovations has helped with the press box. I don't see how the ACC media could cover a Duke game there in the past...horrible

I like Wake's BB&T Field

With field turf no issues with multiple games in bad weather plus the field not being kept up for a few weeks. Stadium size is very good as you have people entering while the previous game is still ongoing. Parking is right at the stadium. Pressbox facilities are great and the Wake game day folks do a great job especially the SID. Only issue is they have just two dressing rooms.

I think it would work but it would require them to spread the games out further so the fans could get out before the incoming fans of the follow up game would start filling up the stands. That would make it a two game day with very spread out start times.

One issue in the past was the D2 and D1AA schools were concerned about potential playoff dates.

UNCC would be ideal!

Perfect size with turf! Not sure about the number of dressing rooms. Parking would be fine.

Greensboro is the center of the state for major sized cities with decent stadiums. UNCC stadium is only 14 miles farther than Carter Finley but I think both of those are really too far from the center.

I think playing the 1A at Simeon would work with both games on Saturday. Still would like to see 1A drop down to four rounds and play the week the other three classes. Elon would be perfect. NC A&T and Elon with two Saturday games and a Friday night game each would work. A&T is prefect although not turf.

I am 100% against going back to the high schools. I have seen first hand the issues with crowds, hotel accomodations, travel, eating arrangements, et al. I want each team to be on even terms. A neutral site is the best option but they need to get the right sized stadiums in the right locations.

How many high schools have seating for at least 10,000 with a quality field the 17th week of the season?

Is Edenton Holmes playing at Smokey Mountain a good strategy? Wallace Rose Hill at Murphy? Everyone is for it until "their" team makes that trip. It is a rough proposition heading up to Murphy that last game.

The biggest problem is eight champions. One out of every 47 football playing schools wins a state title. But we have built the "trophy society".

I like the college venues, plenty of room, heated bathrooms are great when it's cold and your waiting in between games, food and drink prices are just way to much, but if you stay all day for all 3 games like myself you gotta eat something...if I was a player I would enjoy the experience of playing in a big time stadium as opposed to playing at home or away, those memories will last a lifetime something those kids can tell their kids and grandkids about

HIgh Point Simeon Stadium would be great for any classes. I also think Grimsley HS would be another nice venue for smaller schools like 1A/1AA and 2A/AA state titles games. The 4A/AA can go to WFU. They can rotate each year or maybe have it pretty well set. I could be wrong on Grimsley but I believe it can do small schools just fine. Heck Greensboro College plays there on Saturday. Only issue that might be a problem would be the field grass.

You do realize that the NCHSAA has nothing to do with the number of state champions. The SCHOOLS voted for it and can vote against if they wanted. Seems like they (coaches, school administrators and ADs) like it the way it is. I personally have no issue with the current format because of the number of new schools compared to 15 years ago.

Since you forgot the reason I will help you out a bit.

At the 2000 fall NCHSAA Board of Directors meeting they heard a request submitted by a group of 1A coaches from eastern NC requesting that 1A playoffs be subdivided which happened for the 1A playoffs in 2001. I was told during the 2001 season by a few different coaches and ADs that it would be for all schools the following year as the majority of coaches/schools wanted the larger field. As a coach it makes sense to get a better shot for a title and at least one extra week of practice.

Two years ago the NCHSAA went to the 1A schools and recommended that they go a four round playoff and finish the week prior to the other three classes. The recommendation was to look for a smaller facility for their title games and get one day solely to themselves. It had been a complaint of 1A schools for awhile that they felt overlooked on title weekend especially from a media standpoint. The 1A schools overwhelmingly were against the proposal and were the same on a 48 team playoff with a bye round for top seeds. They felt it was not fair to treat them differently than the other three classes although 1A is the class that wanted subdividing and the original pod system.

The NCHSAA admin also looked at a six bracket/class/division playoff system that was proposed at the district meetings to include a football only alignment in the middle of the standard realignments. They favored a three class setup with subdividing to six champions. The schools were against the any drop in number of playoff teams or championships.

If the football coaches or schools want the playoffs changed it can happen. I have spoken with over a hundred coaches about subdivided playoffs since the system was implemented for 1A in 2001 and all classes in 2002 and I have never had one speak out totally against it and nearly everyone supports it. Have even had a 1A coach tell me it should be split to three titles in 1A but he would be alright with only 48 teams making the playoffs and being four rounds if they went to three 1A subclasses which would be nine titles.

The people in Chapel Hill (admin) would be fine with the football playoffs being sized down and would prefer it but the NCHSAA is the Board of Directors and the member schools. If they want it changed all they need is to request a committee to put together proposals for the schools to determine which they would prefer and then put it to a vote.

There have been NHL hockey, NC State basketball, Disney on Ice, and a Christmas event at PNC the day of the title games and it does cause traffic issues although parking does not seem to be an issue.
