It is likely a long shot, but I hope Murray Boyles is offered a Name Image Likeness that he cannot refuse and returns to South Carolina next season. One of the most dominant Gamecock basketball player in South Carolina history. I can see one day constructing a Statue Of Collin Murray Boyles at the Colonial Life Arena

Ridiculous. I like the kid but I can think of multiple other players in our history that are more worthy of a statue.

IMO, a National Championship has to be involved when you are talking statue. We have a couple guys warranting retired jerseys. Statues? No.

I think a statue of Paris is warranted. He has taken the team to the tournament in his 2nd year am

Tom Owens is the poster man for retired jerseys, but the way USC handled McGuire's "retirement" alienated many who played for him. Owens would not come back, even at Dave Odom's behest 20 years ago.

JBJ's 2010 CWS was legendary. Multiple homers and the clutch game tying hit and scored winner against OU with two outs and on the brink of elimination. He was the mvp of that CWS. He got hurt during the 2011 season and didn't have as big an impact offensively in the 2011 CWS. Still easily one of the greatest to ever wear a Carolina uniform.

JBJ was the 4th best player on those baseball teams behind Walker, Roth, and Price.
Not sure I agree. Some of this is marketing. I know some may not agree but if A. Wilson wasn't a great pro, we likely wouldn't see a statue. JBJ was a great player here. A world series MVP and one of the all-time great defensive outfielder in MLB. Unfortunately he struggled at the plate. They missed the marketing opportunity for JBJ now that he is out of the league.

Yep, if we're talking success at Carolina and MLB then Walker would be the guy. He's become one of the best first basemen in baseball over the past 5 years or so. Hit 30+ homers in multiple seasons and has multiple gold gloves. JBJ won a gold glove but just wasn't much of a hitter in the bigs unfortunately. But was he a Carolina legend? Most definitely.

Can't argue with that. It wasn't quick and easy for him in the league but he finally received the big contract.

Looks like CMB will be taking his talents to the NBA.

I agree that CMB is a really good player. He likely has a solid NBA future.

That said, this is one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on TIF or FGF.

I think professional success has to be irrelevant to the conversation of how to honor a player at USC. What matters here is what the player did here, not what he did when he left.

I agree but but it doesn’t always work that way.

Sorry I don’t like statues of anyone - leaves too
many people out. Just put them in the Hall of Fame or retire their jersey. I know you can make the same argument for that too.

Would we have repeated in 2011 had JBJ not come back from injury?

I don't think any college athlete should have a statue unless it is for some heroic activity not related to sports.

I’m shocked the OP hasn’t come back and said this was all a joke. Love CMB…but I just can’t comprehend anyone thinking he’s worthy of a statue.

I still have a difficult time believing that comment was serious…

Yeah, no. He seems like a good kid and he's been a very good player but no where near statue-worthy. That's for national player of the year type folks. You don't "cheapen" it by doing so with someone like CMB. Aliyah Boston needs a statue - national player of the year with as many if not more accolades than A'ja Wilson (who was also national player of the year). We did a statue for George Rogers (Heisman), so now it's time for Boston and Kip Bouknight (National Player of the Year - Golden Spikes Award winner) to get one. That should be the standard IMO

College players, in any sport, shouldn't get statues. It is sort of embarrassing that we have a statue of a former player who ended up being arrested on drug charges. I'm fine with statues of coaches who win multiple championships and have long and successful careers.

That statue was put up decades after the drug charges and years after that former player turned his life around. That former player is one of the most visible and involved former players in Gamecock athletics today.

George Rogers deserves that statue.

Just read another post saying he was named second team all-SEC. Sorry, but second team doesn't really scream statue.
