Interesting how right after LIV started playing, the PGA "miraculously" came up with larger purses for their events. I for one think that Monahan's scorched earth approach to LIV is going to eventually backfire. I am a big golf fan, but barely watched this past weekend due to a lack of interest in who was playing. This is the PGA's problem IMO. With its biggest draw, Tiger Woods, being washed up, what sort of audience is the PGA Tour going to generate for the non-major tournaments especially if those banned from the PGA Tour are permitted to play in the majors. And if the LIV players are banned from the majors, I don't want to hear about the winners beating the "best field".
Couple of things…

First, and correct me if I’m wrong, the PGA Tour is a corporate entity and holding on to assets and cash makes sense so releasing some of that to increase purses when faced with a competitor with massive cash resources is the only path.
Second, when the tour co-sanctioned the Scottish Open, you have to expect the fields strength in CONUS to be much lower. All the top players were over in Great Britain. Once the Open was finished all the top players usually take a few weeks off to get ready for the playoffs. So don’t put too much into the weak fields. LIV didn’t play during those weeks either.

The Saudis are buying into sports in many ways. Norman was preaching that they wanted to “grow the game”. Obviously, mucho BS. The world is a complicated place so taking Saudi money will be problematic for some and not for others. Personally, I think the PGA tour might collapse. If you don’t have a bunch of oil wells pumping cash into purses and appearances, it will be hard to compete long term.
Most of the LIV players are finished competing for major titles, maybe 5, 6 guys are still in their prime.

LeBron and the NBA make plenty of money off of CHina and nobody cares, but this is beyond the pale for you?
“Nobody cares”? I literally read again and again and again about the NBA’s ties to China and how many people find fault with it.

Fair point...nobody, including the hyper socially aware NBA seems to be doing anything about it. People certainly discuss the hypocrisy here.

Right. But this is a sport mostly for conservative old white guys, so it's OK. If golf was mostly black guys from the hood, they'd be outraged.

Keep in mind that the new TV contracts that networks paid through the nose for kicked in this year so there was more money available in the coffers that hadn't been there the last couple of years.

9/11 happened. The attack was on our soil. The Saudis provided plenty of cover and I believe 18 of the 19 hijackers came from Saudi Arabia and were provided assistance by their government. The ******* Saudis and anyone who is profiting off of this effort for them to repair their reputation is shallow, hollow, pathetic, and a long list of other negative attributes. **** off.
The Japanese bombed us on our own soil, cut out the tongues of our POW’s if they didn’t talk, and yet sooo
many people support their economy by driving Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, and Mazdas.

They also surrendered and changed their ways. Probably apologized while they were at it.

Well, more gas thrown onto the fire. LIV players file anti-trust lawsuit against PGA Tour.

For some reason, Norman wants to ruin the PGA tour. He tried years ago but Arnold stopped it. And I changed my opinion on Michelson. He’s a pig. He lost tens of millions of dolllars due to a gambling habit and wants to blame the tour, seemingly. He could have sat on his butt and collected $20 million a year in endorsement money for the next 25 years but he decided to ruin the tour because he couldn’t squeeze a few more bucks out of it.

Patrick Reed might be the biggest hypocrite. The guy who played 30 times a year is telling us how it will be great to play a limited schedule and spend more time with family.

So with a month off between Liv events, what does Reed do, off to the other side of the world to play two Asian Tour events. The purse next week is 1.5 mil with the winner getting only 270k.

There are several Liv guys playing next week on the Asian Tour.

They are trying to get world ranking points so they can finish in the top 50 in the official world rankings. That gets them into the majors and WCG events.
But I don’t think the Asian events will yield all that much, the fields won’t have enough high ranked players.

Uh, except we won the war, and, over time, their government changed and we became allies. Compare to the current situation where the same Saudis responsible for all their awfulness are still in charge and still awful.

Agreed the key is time. We’re allies now with Saudis when we need their oil. So back in the day you would boycotted the Japanese. How convenient your 20/20 hindsight is.

No, the key isn’t time. The key is still being at odds with a regime that was still doing bad stuff. So, in your example, during WW2 … yeah, I would have “boycotted” Japan. After we whooped their ***, and they had to do all sorts of fun stuff, like establish an entirely new governmental structure (new Constitution, etc), while we occupied them, then I wouldn’t have boycotted them. Got it now?

I am interested to see how the courts rule and if this could possibly end up in the Supreme Court when it is all said and done.
