So we burned a redshirt for just returns. Regardless of an ultimatum you don't say your wish is my command and go return kicks that's it. DPE is done with that then?

He is the one that wanted to burn the RS.... I would rather have Riley let him burn his redshirt and stay at Nebraska than force him to keep it on and perhaps transfer out this spring because he isn't happy. I truly believe we will see him get some game reps later in the year as well as return kicks. DPE doesn't return kickoffs and never has. If this kid can help in that part of the game I say let him..... He is electric with the ball and I hope he takes on to the house this year, just like Ameer did as a freshman against Fresno State!

Demornay averaged less per kick return last year than he did per punt return. That is partly a product of how amazing he was returning punts, but it is also a statement about his kick returns as well.

We still get him for 3 more years and there is no guarantee that he won't go to the NFL early anyway if he's as good as billed. He STILL has a redshirt year to use if HE decides that is in his best interest later.

Not a troll, but the scenario just seemed odd. I didn't remember DPE didn't do kicks. Hope it works out

With our pass defense as bad as it is = there should be a lot of kicks to return. I kid! Somewhat.

If he's a player at all you'd never get 5 years out of him anyway. Let the kid play.....

If he is the best option at kick return and doesn't want to redshirt, I would play him. If he told MR, play me or I'm transferring, he should already be gone.

If the kid wants to burn it for a minor role the coach should probably honor the request. It was stated he won't be playing RB, if he was elevated over other RBs without earning it in practice I would have a problem.

What are you talking about he only does punt returns? He returned a lot of kicks last year. Be careful who you listen to on these boards.

His success has been with punts. He wasn't housing kicks. It relates to the style of athleticism required for punts vs. kicks.

Doesn't matter though. We did the right thing with JS.

Remember when Cortney Grigsby set the record for most kick off returns and most kickoff return yards in a season? I think 2007 or 2008. I recall that at the end of the season Callahan gushed about how happy he was for Cortney. I thought, what the hell? I'd be embarrassed to death if my returner set the record for most kick off returns in a season, because that means - as you said - our opponents had a lot of kickoffs. that year.

With the kickoffs moved up, it seems like everyone can kick it into the endzone now. Kick returns seem to be a smaller part of the college game than ever.

No one -- probably including the coaches -- can explain the running back rotation. So Stevenson's future this year is just as murky as his competition. I wouldn't be surprised if he got some carries this week, but also wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't see the field the rest of the year.
