That grass is going to be shin high. If the forecasted “wintery mix” actually happens, that could be the equalizer

Been watching Sterling football for 17 years since I moved home back in 2000 and really feel this could finally be the year for them, but now I'm finding out MCC basically rigs their field, The grass in Kaneland I could tell slowed Sterlings speed down, so if this is true it would be a bull crap way to go out. Even in conditions favoring MCC to try and take away Sterlings speed, our line play can hold their own and match muscle, should make for an interesting game! What day and time is game time? Haven't heard yet, and where are the best places to eat in Woodstock??

First point is valid, second point in p/o is not. Officials are assigned by IHSA during p/o, the deeper into the p/o it is, the higher ranked officials are used. They are not selected by the home team.
How high was the officiating crew ranked that worked Plainfield North-Fenwick last year in the semifinals?

I wouldn't call it rigging the field because they are playing Sterling...Field was put in in 1961 right after the school opened. My Dad played on the same field as did I and last year my son when he was on an opposing team. Its the same now as it was then. Issue is the field is built on a peat bog. If it rains, it takes a week or two to drain. Teams have to adjust when the conditions of the field change. Same disadvantage exist for MCC when they play on turf fields, which is the majority of their away schedule now, in that they have to adjust for a speedier field.

I would recommend bringing 3/4" cleats if it has been raining or if it is in forecast

Been 30 years since I moved away so don't know the ins and outs of dining, but, last year when we were up there ate at the Old Courthouse/Jail Inn on the west side of the Square. Food was not bad, drinks were plentiful. Its about 2 miles from MCC and an easy drive.

They were ranked high enough that they were going to be officiating the 5A title game last year until the issues at Fenwick. That was an issue of ignorance of a rule, not of home cooking, which was 1111South's insinuation.

I understood his insinuation completely, but thanks for trying to help me out.

I would say the best place to sit down and eat at prior to the game would have to be the Public House, which is located on the Woodstock Square, Red Mill, just off of Route 47, and I forgot about BBQ King, they got some great stuff too, or if you are feeling Mexican food, El Niagra is good, and that is also just off the Woodstock Square. If you're looking for something quick like a good beef, hot dog, or gyro Tommy's Red Hots and Beef Village are both on 47, both pretty good, if you go to Beef Village make sure you get the waffle fries!

Hey Sterling Warrior before you open your damn mouth about the "rigging" of the field at MCC maybe you should get your damn facts straight. Already looking for an excuse, sad. Read what some of the other posters above said regarding the field. It's a grass field so be prepared for a smash mouth football game. Trust me MCC is more than ready to knock Sterling off once again in the quarterfinals. It will be a great game and let's hope both teams enjoy the moment.

Well, not too many years ago, I attended a 3rd round playoff game at MCC as a fan of the visitors and lets say, the refs got a record number of standing ovations from the visitors' side over the course of the game.

And I never said they were selected by the home team.

Been gone for a while...

$100 bucks says I can get us a rain out...

Bring your 3/4" cleats.

Public house or BBQ King best eats.
Stay away from Mixteca (ugh - kitchen's in bad shape).

Anyway;
It would appear that Sterling capitalized on some key mistakes against Kaneland.

Speed kills - and will hurt MCC regardless of field conditions if they make silly mistakes.
I'm torn here. Had a couple kids go thru Marian a few years ago (2000's) but I'm from Dixon originally and rooting for my friends in Sterling as well.

Win - Win for me I guess.

You figured us out. Every official in the state has this weird affinity for driving all the way up to Woodstock and running around in the mud, so we blatantly screw the visitors. Stop your nonsense please

MCC is a class program. No one waters their field except Procidence in 02-j/k. Relax and enjoy the game.

No excuses here, I was simply stating what others said about watering the field and not mowing the grass, seems like you can't comment on anything here without someone starting some crap. Your the one opening your damn mouth about knocking off Sterling, get your facts straight too, I bet you know nothing about Sterling this year other than previous years performance and results, Sterling will be more than ready too, you may be a bit surprised.

Looks like the one starting crap was you. A baseless accusation calling into question the integrity of MCC,s athletic program. Perhaps an apology is in order.
I grew up in Woodstock and have friends who are MCC alum. I have followed their program since I was in high school starting in 78. I assure you there is no lack of integrity in their program.

Oh Sterling Warrior are your feelings hurt...tough. So MCC "rigs" their fields huh...interesting. You talk about others not knowing about the Sterling program yet do you know anything about MCC? True or False: Sterling has never made it past the state quarterfinals? MCC is a quality, sound program where "rigging" anything is not their style. Welcome to George Harding field Saturday...lock the gates :).

It's all in the visitor's heads, which when you think of it is an advantage! Big crowd expected Saturday? I hope to be there.

This whole conversation makes me sick. Just play the game and the outcome will be what it's suppose to be.
This convo would never happened if we would have been allowed to get turf...Lol! Honestly I am happy I played on grass and not turf, after playing 99% of my games on turf in college, I realized how grass fields can suck sometimes, but there's something special about playing football on grass! From the special smell of football that comes with grass to feeling the wet dew, that has formed during the late fall friday nights, as you put your hand in the ground while getting into your stance. I wouldn't change that for the world!

Again, sounds like you know nothing about Sterlings team this year and are going by past statistics. Good for you to look it up! but it means nothing, these are two teams that have never met or played each other. And again I only repeated what others have told me on this board about not mowing and watering it to make it soggy, I know WMCC is a respected program and school, if you want to rip on someone, or start some crap, go rip on the ones that said it, not me, the one that repeated it. I've seen both teams play, I'm well aware of all this years statistics (not previous years) and I am entitled to my opinion of who I think will win without getting ripped on, and I think Sterling will win by a couple TDs could be less could be more depending on turnovers. That's all I have to say on this thread until after Saturday, go ahead be a big man now and tell me how I'm not entitled to my opinion and no one beats the big bad suburban leauge. Good luck to both teams, talk at ya Saturday!

They have met before. 3 years ago MCC beat Sterling at Sterling in he second round. MCC will be the toughest team they will have played all year. If they can shut down Ty Gavin from 8A ND they can shut down Sterling's tail back. This game will come down to turn overs and special teams. MCC at home and having played a tougher schedule is the easy pick. MCC by 7!

It doesnt matter that MCC shut down Gavin. Sterling has more weapons then just a RB. This is a well rounded team. The main question is, Does MCC have enough offense now that everyone is healthy to stick with Sterling. MCC has no chance of shutting down Sterlings offense. If they can keep them under 30pts and match Sterling then they have a chance. Otherwise, they lose by 2 or more TD's. Yes MCC is by far one of the toughest places to play. Love their field and stadium, and the whole feel when that place is packed. It will make a little difference, but not much.

If you are a true MCC follower then you would know that they played them in the playoffs 2 times before that, I believe in 2007 and 2009 and both of those games were played at MCC! The Sterling people were awesome when they played at MCC! Total class act coaches, players, and fans alike! Especially 2007 enough said. Let the game be played!

Who cares about what happened the previous 3 times that MCC has played Sterling! Are any of those 3 teams playing on Saturday? NO! My son plays on this years Sterling team. I can assure you that they are not thinking about the 3 MCC teams that have absolutely nothing to do with who is lining up across from them on Saturday.

One question I have is how did MCC lose to St Viator in week 7? Were they healthy? I only ask because we destroyed St Viator in the 1st round. If St Viator is truly better than MCC, good luck on Saturday. At the end of the day, the better team will win.
