Unfortunately, they had a falling out because Bowie wouldn't let Double Trouble open for him on tour. I think he knew that show was gonna be fire, maybe didn't want to have to follow them up. Stevie was gonna play on Bowie's tour, but backed out after that IIRC.

That's 100% exactly why Bowie wouldn't let them open. Can't say as I blame him, but what a must-see that tour would have been.

IMHO, SRV is the most talented guitar player that had ever lived. Really wish I had been into him before he died and could have seen him play live. But thankfully we have YouTube to watch his mastery, like his stints on Austin City Limits. Including this coolness. Watch for the broken string at about 2:40 and the guitar change that was so quick and smooth it would make a NASCAR pit crew say, "damn, that was quick".



And if you're a true fan you must own the DVD of this entire concert "Live at the El Macambo". I've watched this thing at least 30 times, and my jaw is in my lap every single time. It opens with this bit of badassery...
