Pretty sure Allar could be 0-10 right now with 2 picks and if the Steelers keep 3 QBs he's safe. It was always Howard vs Mason if there was just a spot.

Steelers have a return game...maybe

The problem I saw tonight was him not seeing the field; he had receivers running open underneath for nice gains\first downs but he continued to force it deep with no success. Granted, he got no help under Franklin and I hope McCarthy can turn him into a serviceable QB.

And allar with the low throw that would have been a first then The twenty yard throw when we need 7, to end the game. Ugh.

We're not on the same page at all with him "not seeing the field"--that's actually never been an issue with him
If anything, he takes unnecessary risks but it's not due to lack of vision
I'm not saying he's going to be great or even a solid backup but that's not an issue.

If he's seeing the field as you say, has receivers open but instead takes unsuccessful risks, than he won't last long. In his first preseason game he took what the defense gave him and played well but the last 2 games he was trying to force throws into coverage and it hasn't worked.

Allars receivers could have helped him a bit....... 3-4 drops....... Not saying that he could not have been a little bit more accurate, but no one made a play for him......

he did throw some darts over the middle on slants and in routes that were excellent throws and on time.

Right--in the first game, he showed the vision you claim he lacks but Allar's still breaking the bad habits that were created--that doesn't happen over night....and, yes, at the end of games all QBs force throws. You're being way too critical of his performance tonight--there were good and bad things which is true of all young QBs--watch Mendoza last week for example. Young QBs are very rarely ready to play. Drew was a 3rd round pick--not sure why you expecting him to play like a 10 year vet.

Agreed--it's odd that anyone's takeaways from tonight are negative. When he throws in rhythm over the middle (especially slants) he throws the ball as well as anyone.

I wasn't the biggest Allar fan at PSU. However, I detest the narrative being spouted by talking heads, especially in the Pittsburgh media, that make it sound like Allar was a complete failure at PSU when he wasn't. Anybody who watched a PSU game in which he played knows that in almost every game, he played very well; he threw over 60 tds at PSU in two and half seasons. His problem was that he just was totally inconsistent and lost his mechanics from quarter to quarter.

Allar obviously has a lot of ability that unfortunately wasn't fully realized at PSU for many reasons. However, espeically under a very good pro offesnive coach like McCarthy, I think that he can be developed into a competent NFL qb, but a lot of it is going to be up to him too.

He played very well? Did he beat a ranked team? Maybe smu, Boise but they weren’t really top ten teams. Had a decent game against Boise but smu was the defense bringing that one home.
Allar has to learn to get rid of it fast and take what the defense gives him.
