I hate to be this person, but after the previous 15 years, I no longer care about the whims of high school recruits.
If we get some good ones, cool. If not, portal guys will work.
I hope we can land this kid, but missing on him won’t tank a future season.

I agree 100%, with the transfer portal and good NIL funds we can get experienced players with college bodies that will be good team players. We will get some great freshmen but I think we get better sophomores and juniors from other schools.
Value of freshmen are dropping significantly.
I dont know Jack. I was around him some when he was an 8th grader and would work out prior to my teams AAU practices in Louisville. He was a beast even then. I did meet a few people that are in his circle.
About 4 months ago I heard he really wanted to stay away from the state of KY and land somewhere a little different. That includes not playing for UL or UK.

As the impact of NIL continues to play out, I have been thinking the same thing about freshmen ... and I think it's actually a good thing.
Come back again after Summer 1 starts. Visiting the UK campus in early Spring during the one week it’s not crawling with chicks is some kinda crime against nature anyway.

Just connecting some dots….Coward seems likely to stay in the draft so Duke is ramping up recruiting Sarr. Kansas was counting on Sarr so they may be throwing a bag at Stokes to reclassify for next year as that roster is one big player away.
That's some good points. I read today that Sarr is now leaning towards Duke.
The number one player in the next class (Stokes) is a KY kid. His recruitment means a LOT more than all the other HS recruits.

I’d love to have him, but I’m through worrying about whether we get a 5-star recruit when there are seasoned veterans in the portal.
A tweener in the mold of a very poor-man's Michael Beasley.
And as someone who was a big proponent of 1AD recruiting during the 2010s.. Same. Now, id like this guy because he is rated to be that game-changing type of recruit.. but im not going lose any sleep over it, like I might have back when we lost Andrew Wiggins or something.
We're either going to get him, or were going to get one of the best transfer portal options at his position.. both of those grade out to be a B+/A- type player.. with Tyran having a higher ceiling but a lower floor. Im more than fine to get the experienced player who MIGHT only be a little less talented during that first season.

Stokes would be nice. If not, Pope is a tireless worker who will find his guys in the portal and even go overseas to fill out the roster.
Not the can’t miss elite ones. Talent still matters.
But proven talent is smart money.
Apparently, he was scared of gang influence from within the state. I may be wrong but that tells me he made some affiliations that aren't so easy to pretend didn't happen.

Yes it is. But if a kid is elite, even if overly unproven, you still want to go after them.
You've got to take the elite ones regardless if you can get them.
I didn't feel like it was 100% credible but nevertheless an odd rumor to come out. Regardless, he just isn't in my top prospects UK should heavily pursue. In the end, I think it's probably KU or a west coast school.
I think my only concern with him as a player is that he's kind of a tweener and needs to improve outside shooting. Kid has elite elite elite athleticism though.

The kid is one of the top players in high school and if he can’t handle fans making comments good or bad then he may want to chose a different career path. He’s all about adidas anyway and was never coming to UK
