Stoops and Mitch aren't going anywhere...what are the options?

Stoops is getting another year, almost guaranteed to get 2 more (unless he totally tanks next year) because of his contract. We can talk all we want about wanting a new coach and AD, or that Mitch should not have given Stoops the extension. The extension is water under the bridge, Mitch is a what a president loves (stay out of trouble, make good grades, help fund the academic side of the university and bring in big time money), and Stoops is unfireable right now with his guaranteed money, so what do we do?

First, I think everyone agrees that we need a Special Teams Coach. The mistakes me make game after game are unacceptable and the onyl way I see fixing this is with a STC.

Second, do you get rid of Coordiantors? If you part ways with Dawson, do you bring in a younger guy or someone from a non FBS school? Or, do you bring in someone with experience? As for the DC, what do you do with Eliot? If you move on from him, what type do you bring in?

I am just trying to think what our options are here. What do we do?

I think staff changes are definitely something that should be done. If Stoops can't see that, he will have to go too. Mitch has set Stoops up for life with his contract.

We don't have any options. This is a terrible staff. No amount of talent south of picking up NFL players can over come the stupid plays. If Stoops is back we will just get destroyed until he isn't.

It really pains me to say this - but empty seats send a very powerful message.
I think it worked with Joker because his buy out was so low. I just am not sure if they can afford buying Stoops out and bringing in someone for $3-$4 million/year.

Yes, I think no matter what Stoops get a fourth year. I really struggle to see him getting a fifth year unless he makes a bowl. One, you have to go get an experienced DC. I don't think Dawson is going anywhere. Like it or not, no one is going to want to go call plays as an OC if your last OC couldn't make a year and you knew going in this was the first year he had called plays.

To me, this is very telling. Stoops wasn't able to get even a somewhat experienced OC to come in. I think there's some truth to the rumors Brown had some run ins with Stoops on schemes and style of play.

2 big things for next year
New DC
ST coach.

Stoops is still going to finish out 5-7. Joker was 2-10. Mitch won't fire Stoops even if that stadium is completely empty (which it won't when Louisville comes to town).

Schlarman goes. Special teams coordinator. Dawson is 50/50. Let's see how these next two games go.

Elliot's got the D playing OK. I don't need to see him leave.

Mitch isn't doing anything lots of other AD's wouldn't do minus winning. The SEC deals are a sweetheart situation for UK. People need to stop giving him credit for what the new way is bringing us. He's not all terrible, but he's bad enough to go in a new direction.

If we aren't prepared to do that, and start spending quality money on our staffs, then we will continue to suck the blood from the SEC and produce nothing. We will continue to ride the coat tails of basketball prestige. There is no answer other than a winning approach to this sport. There's no secret to it.

I'm sorry the administration has convinced 40% of this fan base that it's some ******** other than that.

This year proves that having a head coach learning on the job AND an OC learning on the job is a recipe for disaster.

Stoops needs to hire experienced coordinators and let them do their thing until he's no longer coaching like a first time high school equipment manager

Stoops is dead man walking. Whether he has 2 more games or 2 more years, it's going to end the same way. Any coordinator worth his salt can see this and is never going to come work for a lame duck coach. So we're stuck with what we have.

Hire Ditka to tutor Stoops on how to be a head coach because he clearly has no clue what he's doing.

Gut the coaching staff and start over with experienced coaches who know what they're doing

Go back to a 4-3 defense.

Put the Patrick Towles era to and end.

Stop rewarding non producers with playing time.

I saw nothing that made me think the Towels era should end. Barker had a great drive followed by an awful pick. Besides that, they looked about the same.

Barker had 42 yards on one completion. Towles throws a perfect pass his first series and is dropped. Was a td. With exception of one play barker threw for 18 yds

Don't count juices drop on first possession, baker dropped screen pass (not perfect throw but still should of been caught that could
Of been a gash play and also got first down and got drive started. Eight yard loss on screen pass cause baker refused to block to help his team.

Get Coach Brooks to mentor Stoops for a year or so. I know that's unlikely to happen, but I would at least touch base with Brooks. At a minimum he could help Stoops find some coaches that are good at TEACHING the game of football.

We desperately need a line coach. Our line play has been nothing short of hideous.

I'm not giving up on Stoops, but he's going to have to surround himself with better teachers of the game.

Pay Tony Franklin a boat load to come back as OC, hire new DC and make Elliot special teams coordinator. Stoops needs to spend a month with Coach Brooks on how to become a better HC.
Wait, didn't Brooks tutor Joker?

Saying "with the exception of one throw" makes no sense when he only had 8 throws total. We know Towles is a flop. It's time to give Barker the ball. Towles only has one more year. We won't turn this train wreck around while he is still here.

I wonder seriously if Brooks would be willing to come on as the special teams coach.

And Barker gave it back in one awful throw. I like Drew and I'm not saying he's not as good as Pat. I'm just saying he's not the savior you are looking for.
Barker is much more unknown, therefore he should play so we can get a better idea of what we've got with him.

Paddy Cake is what he is at this point...

Two biggest options are to win the last two games and somehow it'll bury some of the embarrassment surrounding this program. Win two, but that appears very unlikely. Beyond winning, I would think resigning would be an option for them all. This is also a good time for transparency, a thing that is almost always promised in politics but rarely delivered--we could use some real explanations why we look dumber than posts more than about 10-15 times a game. We're 34 games into his tenure, and we look like the current stock market...we better start winning in a hurry because this won't be tolerated at the rate it's going...starting to look like Billy G.

Sad, but probably true
