If we struggle on the line like most expect, itll be partly bad luck, but also partly not recruiting quality depth at that unit quite well enough.

Can we at least stop with the Hatcher thing??? Kid did very little here and was a constant distraction..not much of a loss at all....addition by subtraction
Agree on Hatcher. This year the playing time would either go to Hatcher or Ware. I'd much rather have Ware out there. Hatcher was not going to play D line. He would have only taken snaps from Ware or Allen.

Meant was a decent player but he's not a game changer. I don't see how that loss hurts that bad. Sure we'd like to have another player at that spot who has experience but Meant was a fairly limited role player. It's a loss but not a season breaking one. At the most Meant would have had 10 to 20 tackles and maybe a sack or two for the year. The added depth would have been nice but this way we get younger players with more upside on the field. Maybe we won't end up being such a question mark next year.

Tubman is a little more unfortunate as he had a much higher upside and he played a spot that we need. Still this happens with every program in the country. Attrition is something you have to prepare for.

The losses and transfers under Stoops are still very much within the norms. They aren't like the Joker years where we lost the top half of every recruiting class because Tee Martin focused on 4 star recruits that we could get only because they were known discipline problems that other schools backed away from. These losses under Stoops can be over come.

Much as it sucks to lose Tubman, he really shouldn't be mentioned on threads like this. He was gone last year and unfortunately was never in the mix at all for this year. For that matter, even Hatcher has been gone for months. The real losses were Meant and West. But losing 3 key players (including Hatcher) to off-field issues and injury, respectively, is not unusual for any football program over an off-season.

Yeah but TWO years in a row losing your BEST DL player really is bad luck. At least with Hatcher, he missed so many games that they did learn to play without him and poor Tubman never saw the playing field so these two not so much.

Football is a game of numbers. Most successful programs do NOT end the year with the same players that start it. Too many injuries, off field issues, etc. UK has often had starters that were highly competitive with anyone. The depth issue was the one that bit hard.

Every team has attrition and injuries. If you think we have problems or were unlucky look at one of the injury reports and check out what other teams are dealing with. You'll gain a greater appreciation for where we are right now.

Am I the only one who thinks Hatcher wasnt a good football player? I understand he had all the measurables but he was never going to put in the time/effort to make himself a difference maker. We know this in hindsight.
