And the remainder redshirt? That's great news. We had no talent but got it. Then we had talent but was running it through before they were really ready. This is the way it should be

And all teams are apt to start one or two guys. Isn't Alabama even going with a freshman QB?

Really happy to hear this

Sure wish we could redshirt them all. Just feel we need over 30 redshirt Jrs and Srs in our program every year
I don't. It implies to me that we're not bringing in any top talent but rather players that need development. Even the best programs play a few FR & we're not even there. You really do want guys that are that good. I'd say 5-8 each year is about right, with few/none being linemen. Young is an exception & would likely play just about anywhere. Carter is one I wish we didn't need to.

The fact that we are down to 4 or 5 shows improved depth - Stoops first two years about half the class played as true frosh
I'm betting it will be more than 4 or 5. I think those are just the ones that it's absolute that they play. Counting JCs the number may be closer to 10.

yeah. still see remnants of that old "all freshmen always and automatically should redshirt" mentality. It's been several years ago that I noticed both Bama and SC starting several true frosh - that's when I knew times had changed....

The number of JC's that play says next to nothing about the number of tFR that play - the thread subject. Actually, the higher the number of JC that play lowers the likely number of tFR that play.

There are freshmen on this team that would start in years past. There are a few that will be in the NFL someday. The top of this class is very good.
