Barnie doesn't have to worry about paying the bills. He gets $30+ million YEARLY just for being an SEC school. That's the whole point. Plus, his boss loves him because of his amazing financial performance. Which he has zero responsibility for achieving. It's like a Catch-22, in reverse. Amazing.

But think of HOW MUCH MORE money he could be making the university by having a competitive football team. UK could consistently be either 1 or 2 in the most revenue producing schools in the country every year. Currently, they're almost always in the Top 10 and the highest basketball school by far.

If Stoops is retained for next season, then fired on Dec 1 it will cost UK around $10 mil (his 3.75 mil salary + the 6 mil buyout). So the university would lose an extra 2 mil by firing Stoops at the end of this year. How much will they lose in lost ticket revenue next year by keeping Stoops?

well at least Barnhart saved us $1 million by not paying Guy Morriss.
I think Barnhart refused to match Baylor, because he just didn't want anyone from the prior administration to remain. Some new ADs want to terminate coaches quickly so that they can build their own empire of hand-picked coaches.

Barnhart also gave Tubby a huge contract after Tubby had basically quit on the job. UK had to eat millions.

Guy wanted raises for his assistants. The entire staff was dead last in the league salary wise by far.

Not too much to ask after taking this train wreck from 2-9 to 7-5 in one year.

Morris was making 400k btw.

MB refused to budge anywhere near respectable numbers and Bayler jumped in with a 1.5M deal for Guy and tripled assistants pay.

The following 3 years we had 4 wins, 3 wins, and 2 wins before seeing 7 wins again.

MB was never good with football.

UL is higher, sadly.

I'm beginning to think Mitch told Mark to type up his own terms and just sign at the bottom.

Kind of what I was thinking. Have seen several posts praising stoops' agent for pulling this one over on Mitch but I get the feeling this proposal was from Mitch!!!!

Hell I will go to Mitch with my plan to turn UK football around next after the stoops fiasco is over if it's that easy to get a huge contract.

Negotiate that # down. Tell stoops to take half or you'll keep as coach another year. He looked like he wanted out in 2nd quarter. I bet he takes it in a heartbeat.... could probably buy him out for 4 mill.
LOL

I'd stand on the sideline & get my team's head kicked in every week 100-0 & cash the checks rather than piss away $8 million dollars. what world are you from that someone would give away for no reason or motivation whatsoever 2/3rds of $12 million dollars.

UK is on the hook for every penny of this guaranteed contract, period, aint no accounting slight of hand to get out from paying less.
