That after 4 years of this strategy blowing up in his face, he still won't go for the kill shot! I have seen improvement on defense, but not enough to warrant playing conservative and putting the game in the hands of a defense who has been awful the majority of the season. I don't believe Stoops can help himself though. I believe he wants to set games up this way to prove something somehow defensively....? It boggles the mind how you're inside the 10 and won't take a shot at putting the game out of reach!
Happy for the win, but not overly optimistic from here on out!

It was the smart move. If he goes for it and doesn't get it and Vandy scores and wins the game you would be complaining he didn't kick the field goal. Take the win and enjoy it and focus on Miss. St.

Hopefully, you can find something positive about your week to enjoy.

He went for it on 4th down twice. Maybe you should apply for coach instead of village idiot.

He went for it on 4th down earlier in the drive and twice in H2. I for one did not want SJ throwing the ball when we were in chip shot range.

This thread is exactly the type of ignorance that makes people laugh.
And people like you that can see the logic in putting the game in the defenses hands after the way Vandys offense moved the ball in the second half is in denial! And you sir are ignorant x 2!

That defense didn't give up a touchdown all day...and if I'm ignorant then you must be "really special". [laughing]

What a stupid thread. Did you not watch the game OP?
What about the 2nd half D would motivate you to put the game in their hands? You people have lost touch with reality! It was a piss poor strategy any way you look at it! A dropped pass in the EZ from OT or possible defeat!

Maybe the thought that they gave up zero touchdowns (really one fg on a sustained drive. Other started at midfield and was a 47 yarder). And vandy would need a touchdown with Ralph Webb hurt.

By your logic if you don't get it and didn't want to put it in defense hand. Then they do get a td you lose. So you can't have it both ways

I understand your frustration but let's remember that the offense and ST gave up
an interception, a fumble, and a 65 yard return to put the defense in a real hole.

Agreed. He went for it just a few downs earlier when we were already in FG range. I didn't want him going for it even then. I believe in aggressive play and going for it but there is smart going for it and stupid going for it. Stoops had to kick the FG on that last drive. There was no discussion about that.

I'm not saying throw it in the EZ on 4th down....Geesh! I'm saying when you get the 1st inside the 10, take a couple shots to the EZ and try to ice the game! Run, run, run, field goal almost cost us! Happy as the next guy it didn't, but against the rest of our schedule it WILL

tuck66, if it had a yard or less, he probably would have gone for it, I'm guessing, but it was two yards. There is a world of difference in one yard versus two yards, and I don't mean in measurement.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

We were playing Vandy today. He made the decision today. If he would have gone for it and been stuffed, then what say you?

Are you serious? Vandys offense scored a whopping 3 points in the 2nd half.

And you don't throw it on first three down with two minutes to go. The goal is to run the clock out without them getting the ball back. Throw it in end zone and clock stops, they also keep their timeouts (woulda loved to have them to avoid delay on 3-8). Game was coached very well late. That drive took over seven minutes off the clock, when what was perceived to the the best defense in the east and everyone knew we was going to run it. That was maybe the. Eat drive we have had all year! We got points, held them and pretty much dominated the game. But that don't meet the narrative on this board. After a win there is more negative than positive and it truly is sicking.

Heck before kickoff there was a poll about would you rather win with stoops now, or lose so he will be fired and people were wanting to actually lose. It's crazy, if the team brings you so much misery go cheer for someone else. There are plenty of empty stadiums that would love to have you. The program could be in.better shape, but we are night and day better than when coach stoops took over. Heck we have the same amount of sec wins halfway through the season, then we had total wins when he took over.
