how is it that this theory that stoops micromanaged the offense in the second half? I've read that thirty times or more. look at a play by play for each drive. Don't see being conservative at all!
  • 1st and 10 at UK 49
(10:33 - 3rd) Drew Barker pass complete to Garrett Johnson for 32 yds to the SoMis 19 for a 1ST down

  • 1st and 10 at USM 19
(10:33 - 3rd) Stanley Boom Williams run for 1 yd to the SoMis 18

  • 2nd and 9 at USM 18
(10:33 - 3rd) Drew Barker sacked by Dylan Bradley for a loss of 7 yards to the Kent 34 Drew Barker fumbled, recovered by SoMis Xavier Thigpen , return for 0 yards , return for 39 yds to the Kent 34
my thoughts on the series. We scored on a screen play to Badet for our first touchdown. Gash play nothing conservative. We in hurry up to line after play. Then one run play and a fumble on a pass play. Nothing on this drive was conservative or looked micro managed.

second series
  • 1st and 10 at UK 32
(6:37 - 3rd) Drew Barker pass complete to Stanley Boom Williams for 1 yd to the Kent 33

  • 2nd and 9 at UK 33
(6:37 - 3rd) Stanley Boom Williams run for a loss of 1 yard to the Kent 32

  • 3rd and 10 at UK 32
(6:37 - 3rd) Drew Barker sacked by Ja'Boree Poole for a loss of 11 yards to the Kent 21

First pass was a check down to back, we actually threw on first down. Second play handoff to boom averaging 7 plus a carry that was stuffed and then a deep drop back pass. Once again. Nothing conservative on this series or anything that Suggest it wasn't anything but a good defensive series.

    Third series
    • 1st and 10 at UK 48
(0:55 - 3rd) Drew Barker pass complete to Jeff Badet for no gain to the Kent 48

    • 2nd and 10 at UK 48
(0:55 - 3rd) Drew Barker pass intercepted Trae Collins return for no gain to the SoMis 12

Thoughts: Everyone gripes when we run on second and long after a bad first down gain. So now we take a shot downfield, ball thrown short and to inside easy pick. nothing conservative on this drive what so ever. No way it can be justified stoops was micromanaging the offenses this series

      Fourth series (down six)
      • 1st and 10 at UK 30
(10:23 - 4th) Stanley Boom Williams run for 6 yds to the Kent 36

      • 2nd and 4 at UK 36
(10:23 - 4th) Stanley Boom Williams run for 6 yds to the Kent 42 for a 1ST down

      • 1st and 10 at UK 42
(10:23 - 4th) Stanley Boom Williams run for 7 yds to the Kent 49

      • 2nd and 3 at UK 49
(10:23 - 4th) [SHOT], S. Williams rush for 5 yards to the USM46, out-of-bounds (ARMSTRONG, C.), PENALTY UK holding (Cole Mosier) 10 yards to the UK39, NO PLAY.

      • 2nd and 13 at UK 39
(10:23 - 4th) Drew Barker sacked by Darian Yancey for a loss of 7 yards to the Kent 32

      • 3rd and 20 at UK 32
(10:23 - 4th) Drew Barker pass complete to Garrett Johnson for 3 yds to the Kent 35

Start with two first downs and cross mid field running the football for at least six yards before holding penelty. 24 yds on four plays. To set up 2-13 after holding. Sack and a check off on third and forever. Good drive and was just killed by penelty. Nothing conservative of this as we was moving ball on ground and our qb had just give. Up two turnovers. Smart drive nothing conservative. everyone wants boom more touched he was fm given them on this drive and successful until the penelty

Last drive was fumble by barker first snap trailing by nine and having to pass

There was nothing conservative on the offense the second half. How someone can say stoops was micromanaging and the reason we couldn't move the ball the second half is beyond me.

Copy and past from play by play. Took three minutes. Justify how you think stoops micromanaging the second half that has been brought up so many times. Just putting it in one thread since it is in every thread.

Give an opinion, then worry about if I'm a ***** or not. Sorry I've not given up on this team. First half was great second was not. N so I would guess we are a somewhere in the middle team.

Lol! it's the defense that scares me for the rest of the season.
Offense has to have some sort of time of possession. You can't score every time we all know that, but it isn't smart to put a defense on the field 2/3 of the game that is your weakest part too. D looked pretty good first half before they were completely wore out.

This team will be facing tougher competition. Gotta work on stopping other teams run games. Those long drives by USM and the turnovers that were made that second half were tough.

If you go back to stoops 2nd year it was a lot of why is neal brown running towles so much? Then you had some blame brown and some blame stoops! Last year we saw why but no one wants to admit it.
There were even some upset that we didn't run towles! Go figure.

Lost in all this is the fact of how much brown scored against sec teams.. Actually pretty amazing. Considering all the freshman playing.
Now stoops get blamed for having 3 OC in 3 years.. ( After troy hired brown)

Now having said that; Stoops needs to win period. Shutup and win.
Is he the man to turn this around? I don't know.
But i respect how hard he has worked to turn this around.

I 100% believe a booster could walk into mitch's office and have the buyout money in hand and mitch would not do it.
Because mitch believes he will get it done.
Will he? I don't know, but it's looking like its heading south.
The thing is he opened a ohio recruiting area we have never had and is also getting into miami, along with FL GA ect.
But non of that will matter if he doesn't start winning. So the next 6 weeks will be very telling!

There's no question he is. It makes zero sense to me why we don't get at least 3 points in the second half. He got in the offenses head with his same ole slow down bs rhetoric.

I honestly think our fans think the only offense that can be successful and all Kentucky is allowed to run is mumme ball. Slinging it around 80 times a game. Thing about Mumme people forget is we threw it a hole bunch and the defense was pretty much a strainer to the end zone and caught all the big chunks of mistakes other teams made. We led the sec in time of possession. And was top five in the country. So our defense wasn't on the field for entire quarters and halls.

Anyone saying Stoops is micro managing Gran is an idiot. Gran isn't a young pup and would tell Stoops to go to hell if he honestly thought he was trying to do something harmful to the teams offense.

People will grasp at anything and are the same people wanting Cal fired after the Noel year.

He should be and is probably micromanaging the defense and it's an embarrassment. Why worry about the O when the D looks like it could have trouble consistently in the C-USA.

FWIW, I have seen little speculation Stoops was micro-managing Gran's offense. That speculation arose last year based on an entire season of unexpected mediocre offense, not just one game.

The offensive difference between the first half and the second half came down to this:

USM gave up (or UK could execute) only 1 "explosive" play (20 yards+) in the 2nd half vs 6 such plays in the 1st half. The differential in 10 yard+ plays was even greater, 10 in the 1st half vs 1 in the 2nd half. That half to half offensive disparity was due to:

1. UK turning it over 3 times in the 2nd half vs. none in the 1st half

2. UK allowing 4 sacks in the 2nd half vs none in the 1st half

3. A USM ground game that monopolized the clock and gave UK only 5 second half possessions.

FWIW, other than the 3 1st half INTs, UK never really stopped the USM offense. In the 1st half, despite the 3 TOs and 3 sacks USM gained 265 yards and scored 17 points on 43 plays. In the second half USM gained 265 yards and scored 27 points on 53 plays and had no TOs or sacks. The half to half offensive difference for USM was no negative plays in the second half.

Peace

Kentucky had a three and out, and a four play stand both in the first half. Plus the three turnovers.
