From an FSU fan. We had Mark Stoops for 3 years from 2010-2012. And I have to be honest: it's shocking to see a defense look as bad as what he is putting out at Kentucky considering what he was able to do with our defense at FSU. I like our defensive scheme at FSU better now that he is gone because it is more conducive to the talent we have. But Stoops's defenses at FSU were Top 5 in both 2011 and 2012. That's what landed him the Kentucky job in the first place. So to me it is shocking seeing defense being his undoing at Kentucky rather than offense. It isn't talent because you can't tell me Southern Miss has better players on offense than Stoops has on defense. Thoughts as to what is going on with Stoops at Kentucky?

Stoops impressed Barnhardt with his presentation of how UK can win. However, hiring a "head coach in training" is very risky. Stoops has not handled being a head guy as well as just being a coordinator.

At Kentucky, he doesn't have Jimbo Fisher overseeing the program as a whole and making the critical decisions. And considering Stoops is trying to run the 3-4 here without the horses to effectively do so, even the one thing he was known for doing well in the past (defense) looks as inept as his offensive and special teams meltdowns.

Thank you Kentucky for taking him from FSU!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, in hindsight at FSU he ran a Zone based Read and React System that was bend but don't break. Now we run an attacking defense that brings pressure and locks up Man to Man consistently on the outside which I like better. But nobody can argue that he got good results running his system at FSU.

The difference ......his defense works pretty well with 5 and 4 star talents... not so much with 2 and 3 stars.

also he's not recruiting speed at LB and DL positions.

Well that couldn't be further from the truth. I can't remember ever having more raw speed at linebacker than we do now. Josh Allen, De'Niro Laster, Jordan Jones, Jordan Bonner, Denzil Ware, Jaylin Bannerman, and Kobie Walker are all very fast

well then why did we look like we were 10 steps behind yesterday on every play?

From what I could tell, it appeared the problem was with the defensive front. Once Southern Miss figured out that they didn’t have to throw the ball (after their QB threw 3, should have been 4 INTS), and started running the ball, the Wildcats were in trouble. They could not stop the run all night. And that was twofold because it limited the number of snaps the offense got after that in the second half. I hate to think what could have been, but if the defense would have played for the deep ball just before halftime, and Southern Miss doesn’t get that TD, I think the outcome of the game would have been a Kentucky victory. That TD before halftime gave them an unfortunate spark for the second half.

Yeah can't put blame on backers. They played pretty well. The line was a complete joke. The fact that their longest run was 14 yards should back up that the LBers did their jobs

We have a fat pig at nose tackle that is borderline a waste of a player

Fundamentals--the lack thereof has and continues to be the undoing of Stoops' UK teams to-date. If a team can't tackle and can't block, then they simply can't win. The equation is simple:

CAN'T BLOCK + CAN'T TACKLE = CAN'T WIN

Or to give it a positive perspective:

CAN BLOCK + CAN TACKLE = CAN WIN

Lost in the dark cloud of this defeat are a few nuggets, one of which was Jordon Jones had a really nice game. Made several big stops especially in the first half. Unfortunately he didn't get a lot of help.

Doops is not a head coach. It's as simple as that. His clock management is terrible, his I game strategy is terrible, his late game calling is terrible, he does nothing well. As a coordinator with a real head coach overseeing the team I'm sure he's fine.

Let's stop breaking this down trying to identify which cancer killed the patient first. How about neither, the bullet resulting from suicide probably did it anyway.

We are going to be 0-2 and maybe a few OOC wins then get blasted in the SEC. Hopefully that's the end of the nightmare.

Everyone knows you give a new coach at least a decade to prove his worth.
Trust in Mitch.
