What could happen....

Stoops recruits a ton of talent, gets fired, we hire an OC as head coach, we win 6-8 games for two years, he leaves, recruiting drops and we start over.

No Mike-D didn't listen... Patrick Towles, Barnhart, name your WO receiver or coach etc.... They all get slapped around pretty good. Last night I was reading a thread and a young fan was poor mouthing senior fans for call it quits...So now we're eating our own as fans;) I'm not a Barnhart fan at all but I'm willing to give Stoops time... But ... I paid to watch Stoops teams for the first three years and like a lot of others don't know that what I have seen is worth me doing a season 4... Maybe we bust out??? GREAT!!! .....Win and people will show up...

I think where we are as a fanbase is .....
As fans we have been better doing our job for 50 years than has UK done for us.... We have had more sales pitches and salesmen try and keep the hook set in our mouth than about any team in the USA... It can be argued we are the third best program in the State and damn lucky EKU didn't beat us, making us 4th... If any fan doesn't want to pay the money...WIN!!! It really is that simple.

At this point, what was stated on KSR are many of the feeling UK Fans generally feels about the football program. This season, the facts remain, the UK Football Coaching Staff failed in a number of ways. From player development, game preparation, game execution, and within game management. Let’s face it, the UK Coaching Staff did not do as well as one would have liked to have seen. It is possible that I’m being too harsh, but in my opinion, the UK Coaching Staff lost four winnable games – Florida, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and Louisville. The last two games being the worst because both Vanderbilt, and Louisville tried to do their best to give us the games. And yet the Coach Staff did not have enough experience to win those games, in spite of those game being handed to us. So ya, I can understand why the fans are not happy.

I can agree with this. I don't think this staff was ready for the rebuild that we needed to have. If Stoops was HC at Fla State the last 3 years some of those bad decisions would have been erased by the great play of their talented players so no one would notice. But when HCs and coordinators have no past experience at these jobs and a roster of non SEC talent, bad decisions look even worse. They are getting better players but now the coaches need to learn to win with what they have on the field. Get the team in a position to win a game and have better field awareness so that time management isn't so bad. Forget the past mistakes and just get better at making decisions on the field. Then, things might change.

Of those, the LV game was least winnable as the staff had turned to a no better inexperienced QB, the WR's had quit on the team earlier in the season, top two RB's got hurt, & the OL had never improved. I.e., we had no O. And once again the D demonstrated they haven't been trained to play the read option. The big LV lead was a complete fluke.

Pretty obvious the honeymoon is long gone now for Stoops. I am still very disappointed we are at this stage right now. I remember just a few years ago being inside CWS and seeing over 50k for the Spring Game and told myself this time its going to be different yet here we are yet again.

I just hope everyone inside Nutter are getting it together and getting ready to do what it takes this offseason to right this ship. Nobody is going to save them. Its completely up to these coaches and players to start backing up what they came to KY to do.

What 'ton' of talent? Our linemen look like they need to eat a sammich.

After the disaster that was Joker Phillips we all wanted to believe that Mitch had made the right hire and we wanted to show this new coach that we were solidly behind him.We never in a million years believed that that hire would be as bad or worse than the coach who had just been fired.I really hope that Stoops can turn his program around, but after the past three years there is little to show me,other than recruit rankings, that he can get it done,I hope i am wrong.

I am with you... been a season ticket holder and a follower for 50 years and I think that was the most excited I have ever been about UK football at that spring game

When you can't even beat Vandy or UL and go to OT vs EKU , your program is a total joke. No two ways about it. I'm disgusted with Coach Stoops. This season was a total disaster. I could have coached this team to 6 wins. What a total JOKE.

You do realize if we played all of this staffs recruits on OLine they would all be sophomores correct?
Don't tout talent that isn't on the field. It's disingenuous. Next you're going to tell me Stoops needs 5 years while simultaneously ignoring the fat contract Barney gave him halfway through year two.

My point is very simple. Our recruiting classes are substantially improved and should be much more talented based on the obsession with stars. That's it. No one touted on field talent just speculation.

Fir hive me for trying to make a point without ridiculing and name calling.

Did any team in the SEC Eastern Division have less talent than UK when Stoops took over?

The truth is that stoops lost a good portion of the fanbase this year. It sucks but you have to win games. I'm not to dig but in order for stoops to get at least 40k in the seats next season, he is going to have to pull some upsets. And what better timing than 3 coaching changes in our division and Vanderbilt at home. Plus we don't have to deal with dak Prescott killing us anymore. Your move stoops.

Have we ever recruited better than the last 3 years? (No) Can he improve as a coach? (Obviously, yes.)

It would be silly to even consider letting him go if he continues to recruit in this manner. I believe he's smart enough, given time, to make the necessary changes to clean up the obvious deficiencies on the field. Barring a complete collapse or rules infractions, he needs a minimum of 5 years.

Green head coach brings in a staff that is green at every position= poor coaching.
Green head coach should have brought in older former head coaches that were excellent coordinators to help him along.

He has proven he can recruit better than what we have been used to. At some point, he has to prove he can coach too.

I'll reserve judgement on the "5 yrs minimum" until he shows me he can learn from his mistakes enough to stop making them. So far that hasn't happened. If after year 5 he is still not showing the progress a five year coach should, we should cut our losses and go after an experienced head coach.

I think Stoops deserves 5 years if we show improvement in year 4. Before you fire him, figure out who is going to take the job. I agree he didn't do a good job coaching the games, but hopefully he will learn from his mistakes.
I think he has done the best job we could expect in recruiting. I think there was a lot of dissension in the locker room. Towles backers versus Barker's backers.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
