The only way you can compete with Bama is competing with them dollar for dollar. We tried this approach in the Mumme area with your boy Bassett.
Bama has guts Bama has balls to do what's necessary to win just like Ole Miss, Auburn, UT etc etc.

UK does not after getting our butt spanked by the NCAA almost 20 years ago to let us know our place.
To hell with the NCAA and the rules, if they can't lay down the law with UNC and others running amok then it's open season. When caught just refuse to participate in the investigation like Duke.

This is one of the most realistic ideas to be put forth on this site. By the way, I saw Elvis in the mall last Saturday.

Dang, did you get his autograph? I will give you a pretty penny for it. An autographed picture would really mean a lot to me, how did he look?

Good post, UK is the biggest scaredy cat on the block, I hate cheaters and would never condone cheating by our staff, I campaigned against BP although I think he is an evil genius as an OC, but some of our actions are twenty years behind the times. The U is another BIG cheater with maybe the biggest cheater in charge winning a NROTY while there, did the same after jurich hired him with he and Strong fully aware of what went on at the U. The incompetent NCAA screwed that investigation up so badly they just wanted the world to go away, they didn't follow the trail of crime to Louisville.

Let's see.....
- go to Alabama and play for one of the greatest college football coaches of all time and have a legitimate chance to win the national title, or......
- play for Stoops, who hasn't won anything and a Kentucky team battling to stay out of the SEC cellar.
Tough decision? NOT!

And while we're at it, let's go hard after all the Ohio State recruits. I mean they would love and respect us as much as the Bama recruits.

I actually agree with this. Of course we wont get many if any....but why not start recruiting the QB Bama has committed already? Put some doubt in his mind....only one QQB will be named started....It looks like Bama could be starting a Frosh QB this year....how many snaps do these guys really think they will get?? Other players we could target like that as well...

One of the reasons that Stoops has been so successful in recruiting is the staffs' ability to identify talented players while they are still under the radar. By establishing a relationship with them early on, he hopes that some of them will stick after the big boys come calling. Of course, not all will, and we simply have to accept the fact that some will flip.

All in all, a very successful recruiting strategy, and a credit to the coaches for being able to evaluate talent.

Actually Bama got hit for some even worse stuff at the same time we did and received similar penalties. but what you have to understand is it's not the school, it's the wealthy boasters that take care of business and therefore the school stays insulated for the most part. Bassett was sending checks out himself - stupid.

It's one thing to cheat, yet quite another to be creatively, minimally compliant. When it comes to Football, UK is not willing to push the envelope.

Yeah, and I should start dating Kate Upton to make my ex mad. Omfg OP, what is wrong with you?

Yeah, not very realistic. It looked like UL landed the nations #1 Juco running back until Auburn offered. Just life for those not traditional powers.

hallelujah! Preach it from the mountain tops!

Spending like Texas and Alabama is what it will take for us to get big time results and there isn't a damn thing else that will. The solution has always been there. Look at Oregon. Other than Brooks' Rose Bowl appearance they've been historically meh until Knight started dropping absurd $.

Exactly, and they are still big scaredy cats even after the NCAA has shown over and over how incompetent they are. Hell, look at what just went on in our state, let alone our neighbor to the south has pulled off for decades.

Over the years we have proven we're too dammed dumb to cheat and get away with it. Plus Bama gives prestige not money to get football recruits. We're bankrupt there for the time being.

Frankly, we've proven that we're not smart enough to do that.

In case you haven't heard, Alabama has also been on NCAA probation before for cheating.
