I don't see how stating that teachers don't replace parents is putting someone down however, I respect your opinion.

I was replying to the statement of only 10-20% of teachers go above and beyond for students. I do agree with you that teachers are not replacing parents. I just disagree and think more than 20% of people that get into that field are getting in for the right reasons and are willing to go above and beyond for anyone.
I do think, though, that the school is receiving more pressure to instill more core values and ideas now than in the past.

I'd like to see the study that was conducted to verify the "only 10-20% of teachers go above and beyond for students" statement. In my opinion and from my experiences in different schools, I think 10-20% more closely represents the ones who do not go above and beyond. However, I do not have any research to back that up besides my own experiences and feelings.
Understood. You just took part of the sentence as it relates to the 10-20 percent. I was talking about teachers that get involved in kids home life and in some cases become the parent. There are a handful of teachers at most schools that would be willing to go that far.
I think the core values issue is more of a society problem and not a parental problem. Kids have way more access to things that help create the gap in core values.
Chsd218 (Richards, Eisenhower Shepard) has had only one occurrence of cancelling football games and that was back in 1985. It was an 18 day strike that forced each school to forfeit 5 games but it hasn’t come close to a play stoppage in over 32 years. It was a terrible thing for kids and coaches as always but the situation has been avoided since then.
Higher property taxes typically provide for better neighborhoods. Would you rather live in crummy neighborhood with low taxes or a nice neighborhood with moderately high taxes(Plainfield is not that high compared to other areas such as Naperville, Frankfort, etc)?

Yes, cook county. We are talking about the state of Illinois. Specifically, the thread is referencing Plainfield(Will county), so that is my focus. Is it shocking that the top 20 property tax areas in Cook county have the highest crime rates?
Depending where you live in Plainfield the taxes are different based upon home values supposedly. It used to be taxes were 2% of your home value.. I pay close to $12,000 in real estate taxes and that's after appealing several times. There are a ton of grammar schools in Plainfield and also 4 high schools. Three high schools have been built in the last 12 years anticipating a population growth which never occurred. Plainfield East services kids from both Plainfield and Bolingbrook. IMO the teachers do a very good job teaching the kids and I do not begrudge them getting a good salary, but there has to be a ton of people in the support and administrative staffs which increases the costs of running a school district with so many schools.
Geez, where have I heard this in Will County before?? Oh yeah that's right. Lincoln-Way schools.
Did they at least save on the architect seeing as East and North are copies of the same building?
