Been a fan of Howard Chaykin's since his prophetic comic series, American Flagg from the early early 80s, I was 13 back then.

Helped me to realize that there were better things out there VS what was popular.

Recently, he's gotten some major flack from this image...what do you all think?

Yeah, instead of discussing sports, what you're wearing for Derby or whatever the **** this board discusses...all I did was ask ya for your opinion on a controversial image.

Really apologize for asking ya fx to venture out...a bit.

Haven't watched the video or read the comic but I have no issue with that image. If the flag can be made into a swimsuit, I have no problem with it being made into a burka. You know, the whole "freedom of religion" thing.

Chaykin's opinion...

“For the record, the cover depicts the horrific wish dream of some 45% of their fellow Americans,” he told website FreakSugar. “Perhaps if they spent a bit more time paying attention to the fact that the world they were born into is on the brink of serious disaster, they might have less time to get worked up about an image of genuine horror that depicts an aspect of that impeding disaster.”

Without watching a second of that video, I'll just go on an guess that he drew that just to get some panties in a wad so that he can have something to soapbox on. Mission accomplished.

Thank ya funKY, I posted the video seeing that the average paddock poster would have much more interest in it VS ACTUALLY reading something here.

Thank you for stopping by, man...

Just previewing through the 15 minute video that isn't a video at all, really, I can say you should have just not made the thread at all. Thanks for insulting everyone saying that we don't read on a message board that is 99.4 percent words and .5 percent boob pictures.

You really seem to know your audience.

Just wanted you all's opinion.

That is all.

Way to dissuade the actual discussion and nit-picking funKY. As I said before, I really appreciate you stopping in...now

So assuming that you all would have more interest in watching a video VS reading an article is now consideted insulting around here?

CatsfanGG24, I must disagree. I've loved his patriotic tone 30 years ago and it still holds-up today.

PLUS its such an extreme FU/commentary to all the jihadists...classic imo

i think the juxtaposition of what many consider to be the ultimate symbols of two categorically opposite systems of belief: i.e. the burka being symbolic of masculine hegemony over women and the american flag, is a strong one. now whether or not the auteur chose this subject matter as a way of persuading both sides to buy more graphic novels or if it was a part of a larger cause, is not for us to say. i would lean toward the former as our current political landscape is a sensationalistic one at best and a purposefully antagonistic at worst. i suppose therein lies the motivation of journalism or writing in general, but i digress. interesting piece of work, nonetheless.

thread still sucks, though.

Thanks for stopping by and one hell of a critique Johnny.

Appreciate it. Maybe we can get this thread directed towards my initial intent:
