Students are leaving because the third quarters have been boring as hell. Not complaining about having a lead but come on you score when you can not when you have to. And we are 2 plays away from them being back in this thing.

They’re in HS so they probably left looking for hookers and blow.

Was standing below the scoreboard at halftime watching the students stream out down the stairs - don't understand why this is happening so much this year as it didn't seem to be as much of an issue the last couple.

Their pre-game pregaming has worn off....time ot go back tot he dorms, take a nap and then get ready to pre-game for the evening events. They also have zero patience to wait through a 20 minute intermission.

RU students exiting before games end? It's a generational and cultural dynamic. They're all about immediacy and self, more so than ever before. Starts with mommy and daddy, accommodation and adoration, and the era of participation trophies. There just must be cooler, more pleasurable things to do, elsewhere, always.

"Why can't they be like we were?
Perfect in every way!
What's the matter with kids?
What's the matter with kids?
What's the matter with kids today?"

LOL....

The children now love luxury, they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise

Attention spans are incredibly diminishing each generation. PLUS there are a ton of students going to the games, which is awesome, however most probably are going for the atmosphere/pregaming and book out at the half.

Back in the early 2000’s when I was a student, the overwhelming majority of students who would go were diehards. Most would stay the whole game. Nowadays there are 10x or 15x more more students who go, but that includes the casual student fans who like to get outta there at the half.

I went over to the student section with a buddy and asked several groups why they don’t toss up kids anymore after scores. They looked at me like I was nuts.

We scored to go up 21-3 and we convinced this little kid to get tossed and we did it and everyone around us just watched. One girl was even recording for social. It was kind of a “dumbfounded” engagement. … so it was me and my buddy tossing a kid up with no one else joining in…

And the funny thing is, generationally, each of us thought the other one was the weird ones. Def never doin that again

They aren’t as interested in watching or attending sports events as previous generations. Nearly half of Gen Z have NEVER attended a sports event.

The venues themselves must be equipped to cater to Gen Z’s digital-first habits, including fast WiFi, reliable mobile ordering and communal spaces to gather with friends, where users can show off their experiences. When consumers share these moments via Instagram, Snapchat and their other social media accounts, it’s like “a badge of honor,” said MLS’ Bruce.

“Gen Z then converts that experience into content, into currency, that ultimately influences their peers to say, ‘Wow, look at that. I need to get to that arena, too,’” said Mark Beal, a Gen Z expert and assistant professor in the Rutgers University School of Communication.

This is a great write up. I noticed at a concert I attended recently, I was in the pit and there were a lot of teens crowd surfing — all of em were recording themselves via their smartphones
