Sturgill Simpson kicked *** on SNL last night. I used to tape SNL so I could fast forward through the musical act but this time did just the opposite.
Yeah, I taped it to watch Sturgill Simpson. I thought that was pretty clear. Guess not.You taped SNL?
You, sir, are a dumb.
I thought maybe his mic was too low on the 1st song. Thought the 2nd song was great.watched the two songs on You Tube, love SS, but those are unfortunately not two of my favorites. Crowd loved the 2nd one, Call to Arms though
You probably wouldn't understand. What kinda tape y'all using?

Hopefully masking to mask his shame. Zing!
Metal is, literally, awful.
To each his own.
I'll take metal guitarists and drummers over their counterparts in any other genre. But if you like vocals more than instrumentation, I totally get it. The harshness is an acquired taste.
I'll take Slayer over Kenny Chesney any time.
I wouldn't want to get laid by the type of gal who gets off to Kenny Chesney. How often have you been laid when you turn Slayer on?

I'm sure he'll somehow survive my critique.I guess he'll just have to settle for album af the year Grammy nomination.
What exactly do you mean "forced voice"? Keeping in mind that I am no singer or musician.I'm sure he'll somehow survive my critique.
Ok, thanks.I think he's referring to his conscious decision to slur his voice and not pronounce lyrics. Dave Matthews was a good parallel although different. It turns some people off.
Call to Arms is essentially an up tempo modified time signature Bad to the Bone or am I taking crazy pills?
Me? No, I thanked you for the explanation. You're saying he doesn't do that?
:sunglasses:I'm too cynical mdlUK...I thought you were giving me sass. I DON'T TOLERATE SASS
You're welcome tho.
I wouldn't want to get laid by the type of gal who gets off to Kenny Chesney.
Well, I guess you didn't imply it was a girl at all, did you?
OK, I watched it. Dude is a great performer. I like the mix of instruments too. However, I don't like it when artists 'force' a voice, though. Gets annoying real fast. His is just not a voice I would listen to regularly. Same goes for Dave Matthews, Garth Brooks and about a million little pop girls that are on the radio now with the same irritating voice.
Jim Florentine disagreesPlenty. If she won't suck the D to Dead Skin Mask, she's not worth your time.
I used to smash to gangsta rap, death metal, etc. back in the day. Now I'm married to a gal who would prefer Megadeth or Pantera to Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean, so I found a keeper for me.
If you need ****** pop country to help you score, that's on you.
Hell that ain't country...that's blues son!!!!!
Look, I really like the guy's music. Like, a lot. I have all his vinyl... but his newest record is **** compared to his others. Music must have really sucked this year for his album to be up for a Grammy while the first 2 went completely unnoticed. Not trying to be a dick, I'm just confused by the sudden recognition by such an underwhelming album.I guess he'll just have to settle for album af the year Grammy nomination.
You do you, but I'm missing the reason the last album isn't the best of the three. Exceptionally well composed, performed, and produced. I totally dig Metamodern Sounds (admittedly have only spun HTM twice) but even a fun-time political piece like Sea Stories on the new one is perfectly executed onto tape and rocks the eff out...Orchestra hits at the end of the Nirvana cover are brilliant. It's more ambitious and overstated...and they pull it off without going Kentucky Rain with the ensembles. IDK...maybe your just a bigger songwriting fan and I give more points for orchestration. I listened to it twice and couldn't make it through a third. I just found it sleepy, droning and kinda reaching, like he's trying too hard to be taken seriously. Nothing about it caught my ear or made me want to hear it again. I'm not a fan of the Nirvana cover, which is funny b/c, on the whole, I found this album so different from the first two that I'm not surprised that a different ear has the exact opposite opinion when listing them out... which only goes to reaffirm (to me) my own perception of the difference. I dunno. Maybe his music is evolving beyond me.You do you, but I'm missing the reason the last album isn't the best of the three. Exceptionally well composed, performed, and produced. I have to agree somewhat. I liked Metamodern Sounds more than Sailors Guide.Look, I really like the guy's music. Like, a lot.
