Several factors keep us slipping. aside from a win over little brother and a Big 12 Championship...we will have lTitle style points to lift us. So guess we face a tight window to get into CFB Playoff. Tight game margins will keep us down. Pretty sad.

Lack of style points and wins might keep us in the thick of things. But when things get down and dirty, welp, gotta thru Georgia and Bama to get to the promised land it seems.

Saw this last night on ESPN. It s just some peoples picks for the Playoffs if the Playoffs started today. Cinn getting a lot of love for beating the Domers. Knew they would. I think they even jumped us in one poll.
I also don't think we are playoff worthy at this point but we could be by seasons end. We have gotten the benefit of the doubt sometimes so if another team got in over us then so be it.
That said it should be OU's goal every year to get to the playoffs and I am sure it is but I think a lot of fans, players and Coaches are content to win the Big 12, 11, 10 and go to a more winnable Bowl Game. I hope thats not the case but it feels like it at times. Complacency.

Penn State @ Iowa next week will knock one of them down. Look for a 28-24 type game either way. Plus they will have to win a CCG to get to the PlayOff final 4 and could end up playing PSU twice or tosu or Michigan

Plus the crappy weather has yet to set in. Lots of football to be played...but lots of questioning remains aimed at the Sooners.
Oklahoma needs to just handle mind their business and worry about the upcoming opponent. If they can win every game regardless of the margin, the playoffs will be a lock. The ACC and PAC are a mess. Ohio State has a loss and Iowa and Penn State play this weekend.
Saw Grinch's Post Game Presser earlier today. He wasn't happy at all about the Defense. Hope he gets it worked out this week.

That is now labelled "old school" by the current generation of fans and now, running up the score is deemed a necessary ingredient in determining a team's worth by pollsters, networks and fan bases. Our teams can't just win games anymore. "Style points", taunting and trash talk are now considered about as important as winning games.
I'm old school for sure, but I have been all my life. The things I don't like now are things I didn't like 50 years ago.
One act of old school sportsmanship I recall was Switzer consoling an Iowa State place kicker after OU's 7-7 tie in 1981. The player missed a late field goal that would have won the game for Iowa State and was very distraught walking off the field. The story goes that Switzer ran over to him and said, in so many words, "Son, if this is the worst thing that every happens to you, you're going to have a great life". Whether the story is true or not, it does put a good perspective on sports competition and life in general.

We were one stupid penalty and a long field on kick off that allowed a return for a TD from covering the point spread. Rattler looked much better in the second half. 22 for 25 (88%) completion is not a bad stat. KSU is better than advertized and always plays us well. We have a long way to go to compete with UGA or BAMA but so does everyone else. We open as a 3.5 point fav over the whorns. We need to make it a 14 point win. OU D needs to step up this weekend.
Riley needs to have his team play hard and SMART.
I think if this happens, OU will improve its chances dramatically. The talent is there. The mindset and discipline has to be there.
Point spread be damned.....I will take a one-point win any day in this game.
Style points these days are more aimed at quality wins against ranked opponents. Like Cinci did with ND on road and they jumped us. We have got ourselves on the path of being left out because a one loss team will have the quality win edge sad to say.
I'll be glad when they expand the playoffs because it's downright sad to have to worry about "style points" when you play. What happened to just winning?
We have a mountain to climb. It’s plain sad when our best teams we play are #21 Texass...#12 OSU...and unranked Iowa State and Baylor. This won’t get us up the mountain. The spin of this world is applying to rankings...bad street cred if you don’t meet or exceed expectations. The brain trust should have realized this going into this season.
Fixed it to the obvious my friend. IF we beat the horns or anyone in the CCG (with no more than one reg season loss) it should be enough provided that all those ahead of us lose at least once preferably in their CCG, imho of course.

All I know is if this team can't get jacked for Saturday, we're wasting our time day dreaming about playoffs. Alabama, and very likely Georgia, at this time, would have to register as sex offenders after the assault they'd put on us. I shiver thinking about our line trying to handle Jordan Davis from the Dawgs.
GA defense went from very good to the next level. Lots of SEC football to go. Just like we got tripped up previously by K-State, they could find their kryptonite. Plus the super powers will have to clash eventually. Guess it’s all hand wringing and guesses at this point...
Georgia's run defense is phenomenal and Arkansas' offense is predicated on running the ball. They were F'ed. Plus they melted under the pressure. Once the storm settled their defense played much better. Arkansas punished Texas because they could run. I think what we saw against Clemson is more what Georgia's offense is...okay, can get better. But they are human. Alabama is the flip. Their defense has holes. Both of these teams are beatable. But Kirby and Nick do something we don't, acknowledge the problems and address them. We pretend that everything is fine and anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot. We pretend like we don't fail week after week to scheme for our opponents strength and refuse to adjust when our scheme isn't working.
But it's cool. I'm sure Nick Saban would play his 3rd string weak side lineback in the red zone with the opponent making a comeback.

I know right ? 23 seasons, longest tenure etc. 19 years of mediocrity mostly and a son is OC. They would still trade their old dusty Orange trophy for OUR only Rose Crown. They put a few linemen and TEs in the league.

The key on Saturday is mixing up the run and pass game to keep Texas D on their heels. Their defense is not very good against the run or the pass. This puts the spotlight squarely on our O Line (once again). If Rattle can repeat an 88% completion percentage we win by double digits.

Yes and no. OUr team has a history under LR of being a lot better the last six games of the regular season than the first six. I suspect this has a great chance of happening again. This weekend will be the make or break, as to whether that can happen again.
The one huge caveat is that surviving the year with on two scholly running backs will be a very tall order. It also gives opponents some leverage against us. We don't want want to run too much, and put them at more risk. We have depth issues at quarterback and at running back. Less at the former. It really puts Lincoln in a bit of a bind in play calling.
But if get to be as lucky as we were in 2000, and the OLine comes around like they did that season, then the goals they have of winning playoff games is still a possibility. I wouldn't want to play UGa or Bama next week. But I think it's possible we might play either a tough game in the playoffs. Yes, seriously.
Part of the key is getting injured players back, and having some luck with injuries in the future. We haven't had a lot of that for 20 years. I also think that the conference this year is the most solid it's been in a long time. A lot to overcome, but this team is capable and they will improve, luck as an ally.
I didn't see Kansas St as being better than advertised. I saw an OU team struggle with a KSU team (again) that is as average as the other 4 teams that almost beat OU and with pretty much the same game plan, long drives that eat clock while keeping the OU offense off the field. OU's Lack of Defense made KSU look a lot better than they are just like they did vs Tulane, Nebraska and WV. I fully expect texas to do the exact same thing, long clock eating drives that keeps the O on the sideline. Right now I am 50/50 that we win Sat. If the team that has shown up the previous games vs teams that had a pulse we may be in trouble.
