Unfortunately another topic that has been discussed over and over but yesterday I think it was about 12:45 to go in i think the second half but he takes out Cliff and Cam at the same time now I know Cam wasn't great in the second half but Minn goes on a 7 -0 run in like 2 minutes why can't he stay with the players who are building the lead they get a timeout every 4 minutes there should be no reason they cannot play 8-10 minutes other teams have players that play 38 minutes a game why can't some of ours; that was another opportunity to put the game out of reach but as we know everytime we had that chance we let them back in and of course we all know how it turned out

No matter when Cliff leaves the court, it's been an instant problem every game and will continue to be unless Dean or Wolf play better
Best case scenario is Wolf makes a big jump next season but could take another year

yup and he immediately had to put cliff back in...he had reiber and palm in at the same time..lead went from 53-39 to 53-45...although that was that when cliff was limping a bit after getting fouled on rebound...just proves what an enormous drop off there is

Cliff needs to play 38 minutes vs Northwestern

Sometimes it looks like he has a preset rotation set and he just goes with it rather than using more feel for when it's time to sub.
That’s how I have seen it also. It’s like it’s predetermined. Eerily similar to our inbounds passing. When option 1 isn’t there I feel like players don’t know what to do

Pike struggles with understanding ppl matchups and momentum. He makes substitutions that have been scripted before the game and does not understand or feel what he’s seeing. He cost us last nights game with poor substitutions, inability to play the best players, not understanding to have our best ball handler and second best free throw shooter (Simpson) on the floor. Ok you want to show loyalty to PM (un warranted) at least in the last 90 seconds when they are obviously fouling substitute in your second best free throw shooter and your best ball handler on the floor. Terrible at inbound plays 2 years running a coaching problem(hurt us all year and lost us the play in game last year). Not having D1 depth a coaching problem which limits his ability to substitute. Pike not understanding timeouts to help bail out kids who were panicking is a coaching mistake and cost us late. Allowing your kids to sing and dance on the bench is coaching not focused w 5 min left . Offense for defense substitutions late in games has been something Pike has done all year . Pike has subbed Cam coming out on D and back in on offense because he is a bad on ball defender. (Good in passing lanes bad 1on1) At least in the last 5.8 why not sub Cam out for a better on ball defender? The guys played hard and made mistakes but the coach had the wrong guys in the game putting them in bad situations and did not help them with timeouts and substitutions. Pike FROZEN

Yet Pike has said that Brandon Knight makes the subs and if that is true than we have a problem and as you stated again it has been a problem for a couple of years now; and I also agree with the other things you said

I don’t know why we haven’t tried to mix our starting lineup up.

When Mag went down I was always in favor of bringing Hyatt off the bench.

Our starters all played 32+ minutes last night and played a total of 170 of a possible 200 minutes in the game (85%). Very bizarre Derek Simpson didn’t play more after the PSU game to say the least…

Cliff was limping and grabbing his ankle when he came out of the game there, I think you kinda have to get him out to take a look at him in that situation.

We were up 10 with a minute left. Substitutions with 12:45 left in the game shouldn’t have mattered.

agree, but your "unless" isn't remotely realistic.
Its a problem when Cam issn't on the court because he is the best shooter on the team. When Cliff and Cam are on the bench at the same time, the offense sputters becasuse of the lack of shooters.

It’s because Pike does things based on time rather than flow of game.
Which is wrong. Pike sometimes coaches like a robot instead of reading the flow of the game. Take out Cliff? Fine. But you don't take out Cam as well. It's the same boneheaded decision he did against Michigan, only that one was worse. We were up 13-3 and he takes 3 starters out and Michigan immediately cuts it to 13-12 and we never recovered.

? of course Pike ? reads the flow ! of the game. ridiculous to think he doesn’t. ? that^s not inconsistent with also having ¥ a game p[an.

?? what part of taking three starters out suggests robotic coaching ? ??

Every game is a chess match(?

? damn fluxxin ipad keypad ?....?

I actually like Cliff playing 32 ish minutes sitting out 2X per half surrounded by a media TO.

I want him being a force down low. His low post success is so highly correlated with how deep on the low post he can get. Playing extremely hard in short bursts is how we maximize what Cliff can do.

It takes a lot of effort to work hard to get good position. Cliff getting the ball 13 feet from the basket isn’t good.

but he’s foul prone. often 2 fouls too early.
