I just got a text from an old friend reminding me of this. What brought this to his mind is that it’s also his 40th wedding anniversary (the underlying reason for his text). I was at the wedding and missed the game.

This has to be a top 5 PSU game for me: Miami Fiesta Bowl, Georgia Sugar Bowl, Wisconsin ‘16, Nebraska ‘82, 48-14, in some order.

I remember it well- and yes, it's easily a top 5 game

First off Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Ah yes, that game was toxic for Bi-Polar people. Down two TD’s early with Pitt driving for a third my rage was incredible. I wanted to hang Joe in effigy (which I believe is a small town in Iowa). The interception in the in-zone which temporarily stopped the rout. Then the magnificent 48 point run that forever killed Pitt football and brought on a wonderful feeling of euphoria. Not just a top five game, but also a top five day.

On this glorious day I am thankful for your eloquence and elocution. I watched it on a tiny black and white TV because the color TV was occupied. Totally worth it.

In addition to the Kenny Jackson pirouette, the Mark Robinson one shoe TD, and all the other PSU highlights, there is only one image of a Pitt player I can recall. That's when Dan Marino gave the double #1 hand signal after their second TD. He must have jinxed them.

Thanks. I always wondered where Effigy was. Guess they maintain a lot of tall trees there. o_O

Thanks. I'll be hunting on Sunday but I'll be sure to remember to text a couple of friends that are die hard Pitt fans and ask them if they are wearing black that day in remembrance of the 40th year anniversary of the day PSU embarrassed Marino and put to death pitt football .....

Happy Turkey Day, Thomas. On that very drive you mentioned, I had to leave for a Birthday party and was dumbfounded how we were about to get blown out. Later, as my parents picked me up from the party, I of course immediately asked about the score. They both hang their heads and tell me "it's a blow out, 41-14." They got me. Moments later we listened to Robinson's pick six on the car ride home. What a game!

I was also in attendance, sitting in the PSU section. Oh dear Lord, what absolute euphoria!

I put up with **** from my Pitt in-laws for an entire week before. Afterward, my wife told me she got a heads up from my Mother-in-law that all was not well in their household and warned me about retaliation.

I said that I would not say a word.

The ear-to-ear grin that lasted until Christmas Eve did my talking for me.

This is true. It’s strange you can say this about a regular season game in a non-NC season, but that’s the way it is.
May not have been a NC season, but it was the prelude to what was to come. Still my favorite game, and being from Pittsburgh and attending the game made it all the better.

The ‘81 team remains my favorite team.

I was there and was sitting in the Pitt section on the 50 yard line. My dad was a big Pitt guy, but he told me he was embarrassed how I was treated by the Pitters. I had a PSU jacket on and was harassed from the time I came in the gates until that Roger Jackson int.
The section was mostly empty by the 4th quarter, though!

I watched it on my 13 inch TV in between reading and studying during my first year of medical school. The game was my study break.

I was there with my wife. When Pitt went up 14-0, I told her if Pitt scores again before we do we are leaving. Our lads must have heard me. :)

Illustrates the historic hatred between pitt and Penn State. Many on this board have no idea how rabid the hatred was between the pitters and us back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The enmity between Penn State and Ohio State or Iowa or Michigan is puny compared to how much we hated the pitters.

48-14 is to Pitt as the Battle of Midway is to the Japanese Empire, or Waterloo to Napoleon.

A year before my birth, but a damn good highlight reel to watch.

Virtually every starting offensive player came from within 200 miles of State College. Believe that was the Paterno approach- and there was enough local talent.
Look at the starting offensive players now. Just no where near enough local talent these days. Much, much harder recruiting job imo.

My favorite memory of Marino from that game was Mark Robinson running that INT back basically right at Marino and and Marino not lifting a finger to try and make a tackle and prevent the pick 6. as Robinson ran right up the middle by him.

Same here, best game I have ever attended, just an incredible day. Surprised nobody has mentioned the personal foul penalty against Chet Paralvecchio when he hit a Pitt player player out of bounds and promptly got in Jackie Sherill's face. Penn State had so much motivation that day it was unreal. I would give just about anything to see PSU get another LB like Chet or Trey Bauer.

Let's not forget that it is also Jackie Sherrill's 78th birday !!!!!!
