Super Schools Still S*ck

Reading the national polls for high schools this week shows a growing trend of semi-pro football academies being treated as high schools. Always figured you couldn't fix basketball because it only takes five guys and a basketball, but football?

I am not talking about Loyola or MC or the other privates around here. I am talking about schools that are recruiting kids to cross state lines to play with top talent under the auspices of calling it high school football.

I feel for MC losing their guy this year and must admit that I would rather play their full squad and lose than know that every time a real stud comes along, he will be off to the highest bidder.

What a bucket of suck.

Kids in Illinois are recruited to play 50-70 miles from their home or, given/ have low rent apartments near the schools, in question. That happens right here in Illinois, might as well be another state when they are driven an hour each way for high school.

Thats what I said in an earlier post. Sure I think there is a difference in our public and private schools, but neither sector is anything like what goes on in some other states publics and privates... Including Simeon hoops.

Kinda destroys why I like the sport so much. Community vs Community. GBW is one of those superteams though #8 in the Midwest

Don't feel sorry for MC. They will be just fine. In fact, their program is what all others should measure against and aspire to be.

P.S. love that you have a Rambler as your profile pic, Cap'n Bill!

GW does not have a single transfer kid that I know of. All home grown. Two years ago we had a family move into the Glen because the old coach in CO spoke so highly of Hetlet's defensive scheme.

I don't feel sorry for MC but I do feel bad about the situation.

Not that Brodner fit the mold of a IMG recruit, but losing him in a situation like that would have hurt deeply.

I think you missed the fact that "Bones" was just adding another feather in his we are going to get beat bad cap. No one would consider any Illinois team a super team. Even if the talent is there, the rules in Illinois are too strict to develop and operate as a super team.

Not sure how anything in my post added any fuel to Bones fire. Transfer from CO is gone, Brodner is in Madison, and we are still left with the well heeled chillen from The Glen. Bones is the one with all the D-1 guys.

Bones is the one with some splainnin to do if his boys do come out with that double wing to confuse Hetlet in two weeks.

Slow down my friend. the statement of GBW being a super school simply because they were 8th in the midwest was Bones trying to put distance between GBW and BB. NO ONE on this board thinks GBW is a super school nor is it a transfer spot for public kids.

I'm confused. I am not insinuating that you or anyone is insinuating that GW is anything other than a pretty good football school that lucked into finding a top coach. I assumed you were saying I was adding fuel to Bones fire, which is unnecessary as his team could be the '85 Bears playing Leo and he would still demand points.

My original point stands that Super Schools suck and I am glad we have none in IL. I hope to god Edgy isn't right and that we don't end up with these schools in IL.

One piece I did find funny was that one of the schools on the outside looking in for USA Today preseason Top 25 was St Johns in DC. Their write up stated they had a bunch of former IMG kids. So now we will end up with roving groups of kids going from prestige program to prestige program until they are recognized for all their greatness or replaced by someone better. I can't imagine how ugly the dialogue gets on those chat boards when they start losing because no one wants to block anyone.

It's hard for me to take St. John's seriously because we beat them 55 to 14 back in 2008. I know that was a long time ago but I have more respect for a few Illinois schools.

Agreed...growing up in Northern Va they (St John's) never had real football cred. Recently, it appears they are in a frenzy to compete with DeMatha and Good Cousel in DC so they seem to be recruiting from the IMG cast offs.
