Let's look forward. Spending time obsessing about Joe, Billy, or James is pointless. The past is past.

I'm going to support Matt.
Amen Nitt1300! Never understood all the looking back and dwelling on the past that so many do on here. We can be grateful for the great coaches we've had in the past and still celebrate the new coach. Enjoy what we have, we are fortunate to be part of the strong history and tradition that is Penn State Football. I think we are in good hands to have that tradition carried on!

It was a good move on several levels. Tgar understands that you may not be able to grasp that.
I understand why you believe it was a good move (not hard to grasp) but it's frightening you dont see the problems it may create (explained by others though I can dumb it down for you if needed) especially it it wasn't fully his decision.

This stipulation drove other coaches away FYI

Time will tell but there's a ton of risk to it

The biggest risk is that Kraft is still employed and pulling levers.

Matt Campbell will need our full, undivided support to reach his and our goals for the team. I hope he is given the opportunity to be himself and not asked to be someone he isn’t. He is the son of a football coach in Ohio, played at a highly successful powerhouse Mt. Union, and won at both Toledo and Iowa State, where it is a major challenge to be successful. He’ll need some time to mold the team to his vision, but I believe in his long term success at PSU.

Debatable on two counts
1...was it a good move?
2...was it his move/decision or terms of his employment?

🙄

Maybe Kraft was worried we wouldn’t have enough things left to question and b|tch about. This could be his Christmas gift to the serial b|tchers and moaners.

If it indeed is part of Campbell’s terms of employment, I have to imagine he is fine with it. Otherwise he simply could have turned down the offer as others supposedly did. It’s not as if he was beating down Kraft’s door, desperate to come here.

Totally on board with Matt's hire. From the outset I thought he and Chesney were the most realistic options for this job and a good fit. I am very eager to see what this guy who was very competitive with 2 and 3 stars does with better players.

Retaining Terry was a bit of surprise but I hope it works.

Kraft had no leverage over him given the narrative and how the search was run. Its just smart on his part to let Terry remain on staff, stem the bleeding, shore up western PA recruiting, and learn the ropes. Terry provides a backstop to keeping the roster from completely falling apart by providing continuity. If Terry acts out, which I highly doubt is in his DNA, he will likely be let go.

Until Paterno is properly honored, the last real Penn Stater will continue to "obsess".

Obsess in this instance defines loyalty to Joe and Penn State.

He will be given the grace he deserves after a complete rebuild by fans who are not vested in an agenda. Those who cannot see past the Paterno and Franklin eras will never be satisfied.
The “grace he deserves” is not consistent among posters because according to some on here, every loss is the coach ‘s fault. Other factors don’t matter…you must be new here.

Of course. We are Penn State fans and he is the Penn State coach. It will be at least a week or two before we put him put on the "hot seat". He deserves that, at least. And we are at heart, good people. I mean, hardly anyone has brought up the fact that the guy is a Pitter. So, that shows growth for us.

I’m just wondering how long some on here will support him…one series, one quarter, or one game? It will be interesting to see.
I will support him until the team fails to convert its first third down. Then it’s time to fire him and start the back up quarterback.

Of course true Penn Staters will support Matt Campbell - it's not his fault Krafty The Clown is an empty-suit a&&. What's all the bs about JVP??? Terry Smith was specifically announced to have been retained in a "Senior Leadership Position" along with the Campbell hiring announcement - not sure how you figure that is a swipe at Joe... quite the opposite is true.

No. I am referring to reasonable fans; and contrary to the behavior and bloviating of some there is a sizable contingent who is reasonable.

How does this boards support influence his performance? I agree he should be supported, but that’s silly

If that were the case, then "real Penn State fans" would have supported the BoT's termination of Joe. But, they didn't.

Unless they felt the BOT was wrong. But after it happened, you move on and continue to support the programs even if you feel they were wrong. I thought Joe was a scape goat, I hated how it ended, but I still want every Penn State team to win and every coach to do well. And I don’t try to tie Joe Paterno into everything the school does moving forward.

There is also a sizable number in every fan base who blames every loss on the coach no matter what….i guess it makes it easier for them when they’re arguing with their buddies.

Good for them. Not who I am referring to.
