UK in general needs to be in the FF, or at the very least a legitimate threat to make it (so EE like a few have said). Also something of significance in the SEC, whether season champ or tourney champ.

If UK is going to remain the premier program in MBB, the standards can't be lowered. Last year was a mulligan due to extenuating circumstances, and Coach did a decent job (there was a thread on how the '24 season should be judged and there was a lot of consensus on a 'B' grade).

Kid gloves are off now. Most $$ spent (total amount doesn't matter), lot of offseason talk and hype coming from within, and now the standard needs to be met. KDB is scrutinized at every turn at Bama, and the guy was a playoff finalist before taking the Bama job. No idea why some UK "fans" want a honeymoon period where the coach is off limits. "Program building" and "culture" are for losers (see: Florida football), only thing that matters is winning.

I find it funny, how in year 2, with 22 M's spent. Some of the fanbase wants to pump breaks. On "injuries'' and other BS. All we heard in offseason. Was how deep this team was. How good they were gonna be. Pope said it reminded him of 1996. Denims coming back....

Expectations were sat. Meet them.

The team needs to begin compiling highlights and impressive wins.
We certainly don't want beating Purdue in an exhibition to the the highlight of the season ... we can all agree on that !!
GO CATS !!

I see it much differently than some of you and that’s okay.

For me, titles only (not even Final Fours) are “The Standard.” To put it in terms of America lyrics, Don’t give up until you drink from the silver cup.

BUT that’s not possible for anybody to do every year, so I certainly don’t need it to be satisfied. If I did I’d be living an unsatisfied life due to internal problems that I’d really need get handled.

So with those priorities, a Sweet Sixteen exit doesn’t get me anywhere. I’m not going to be ungrateful for it if we get it. But why ask for it.

What I do ask for is that we’re realistically striving towards that real prize.

And on that note, I’m increasingly aware that we have yet to sign a single uninjured killer player so far with this staff.

There are a lot of ways to define killer player and I don’t think there’s any need to get into the weeds on that. We were reported to be in talks with Braden Smith. We were reported to be in talks with Nate Ament. We were rumored to be in talks with Donovan Dent. We were rumored to be in talks with Yaxel Ledenborg. We were rumored to be in talks with Caleb Wilson. We were rumored to be in talks with Tyran Stokes (and may or may not still be depending on how you interpret what). We are rumored to be in talks with Christian Collins.

If you want me to be satisfied, land one of those.

People will try to muddy the waters by telling me things like Ament isn’t shooting so well. Exactly. Not every killer prospect will pan out. Which means you need more of them. Not less of them. Doesn’t leave us in a great position as we still haven’t reeled in our first. (Uninjured i.e. with his market value unquestionably intact.)

You don’t need a team of them. But even in 1992 Pitino wasn’t going to put Duke on the ropes without a Mashburn. He wasn’t going to be knocking on the door.

If you want me to be satisfied, show me we can be knocking on the door.

You don’t need to hit every shot but you can’t miss all of them.

We need to land a killer.

I happen to think the reason we haven’t is because we don’t really have the huge NIL budget that unfounded rumors claim we have. Because how dumb would our staff have to be to have a budget that size and never have spent any of it on a single. grade-A. killer. I don’t think our coaching staff is that dumb.

But even if you do, we at least should be able to agree we need to land ONE top tier recruit.

When we do I’ll be satisfied.

Depends on if we have a Stokes commitment. If we make the sweet sixteen knowing talent will be different next year I’ll settle. If we flame out with nothing on the way I’ll be restless.

At this point I just want to make the tournament. I do feel this is a team that could cause problems in march. Just have to make it there first.

The way we are playing, we are likely NIT bound =\

I hope I am wrong. But the same stuff Pope struggled with last year he is struggling with this year but on a worse scale.

I don't expect Kentucky to win the championship every year. But I'd like to be in the conversation. I want opposing teams to think "****, UK is on our side of the bracket" come March.
