Swing Pass - Interesting Info

But I think we get 10% with poor passing, more with better passing.

What I'm wondering is, if the pass game improves, will our run pass ratio change?
Last year was one of the most pro run ratios weve had since Frank.
Bo has a couple teams beat it, but more with a lower percentage.

maybe so, even ESPN shows both at 4.8 but none the less. Not a big deal honestly. 4.8 to 4.5 is literally nothing anyways. But outside that we are on the same page. GBR

I believe most is of us will all agree the beginning of the season our run game was off. It was the last half of the season when our run game came together. Struggled early on, yes we sure did. Run better the second half of the year, yes we did. Tale of two different teams.

Regardless we still averaged 203 rushing yards per game (3rd in the BIG 10) at 4.5 yards per carry (4th in the BIG 10). The stats don’t lie. And I expect to see us continue to get better this next season with every OLinemen back (plus addition of Benhart) and we return D Mills.

you're right. we ran for 198 yards/game in the first 6 games then 210 yards/game in the second 6. 12 yards/game difference.

the stats don't lie, but they also don't tell the whole story. we struggled mightily in the red zone and in our most important games because we couldn't run the ball effectively.

hopefully it'll just help take pressure off the pass game, which is absolutely where we need to see the biggest improvement.

It's not just AM. Our past few QBs have been terrible at the swing pass always throwing behind the receivers so they have to turn back for the ball then they get blown up

It's been so bad I'm tempted to think it's being coached that way since it's a safer pass. This has been a problem ever since OU pick 6ed us on the first offensive play of the game on a swing pass.

It's been so bad I'm tempted to think it's being coached that way since it's a safer pass. This has been a problem ever since OU pick 6ed us on the first offensive play of the game on a swing pass.

Tempo and better timing when getting called, and execution have changed some of this, but better play calling and execution needs to improve.
The sheer productivity of it comes from better blocking ,timing of when to call it, and a more effective run game.
When these passes gain more yardage, as does our run game, where our yards per carry goes up, opposing Ds will have to decide what to take away, instead of dictating to us, and then us not executing.

If Manning turns out to be a beast, they will work. He will demand attention, snd if they dont give it to him....hesitation then deep. DBs will have to assure he’s actually blocking and ball is in the air before committing. By then he will be into them. If they cheat, he’s up the sidelines or skinny.

Add in the swinging TE, same deal, will he block down, drop back to catch, or, hit the seam.

Thanks for posting this. It helps explain quite a bit.

I too would want to know how often those areas are targeted, but I'm guessing a lot of plays in a 'spread' type offense end up in the blue squares.
