When I lived near Claremore, the TB was good in Catoosa (right after it was built). Their steak fajitas were really good (unlike the other TBs).

I ate once at the Taco Bueno in the town I currently live in (Conway, AR). It sucks and I'll never go again.

Interestingly, I see a lot of people in this town with OSU stuff on their vehicles (many more than OU).

tne last time I was there was anout a year ago. The one in Duncan I have heard has contemplated closing due to gettiNg product.

Have you ever been to Taco Johns in Russellville? I am a fan.

This is my general sentiment now with this once beloved chain, and basically why I dug up this thread after eating at the newer Moore location last night. In some fairness, the Moore labor market is tapped out due to all the new restaurants opening, and getting good labor is probably hard to find there. But, powder cheese sauce is just disappointing. I'm sure though, in a few months, the nostalgia will become overwhelming, and I'll idiotically go back with the hope that something changed. I did just that a few months back with the 44th & Sunnylane location in Del City, and discovered that it had somehow declined even more - yet surprisingly remains open.

what a great thread

i pounded down the standard cup o beans and bean burrito last night.
was able to leave the heat off with the
dutch oven on high.

those $10 taco boxes last spring broke their *** in two weeks. every crack pot and methhead in the state was living right for a short while.

my little guy eats three soft tacos as a go to

we do nw highway and rockwell 90% of time

i don't make him wash his hands going there tho. i figure cleaning cow crap off his shoes barehanded and eating is safer than going into the restroom to wash up.

Yep it is shut down now. The guy was doing Indian taco's and only was opening a couple days out of the week but man it was a ghost town over there most days it was open so I imagine he finally had to just shut it down. I bet when the CPN's opened the taco fry bread place that does Indian taco's really hurt him also.

I've tried every place in this thread multiple times, each time trying to experience the best from each chain. Small town Oklahoma forces that on you.

6 or so months ago I experienced a Renaissance in this genre. I can't be generous enough with what Taco Casa is offering.

On trips from DFW to Oklahoma, the one in Gainesville is a MUST hit.

I don't like mexican food in general. I strongly dislike fast food mexican from any place. I think it has been 20+ years since I have even thought about eating fast food mexican.

Yeah, they keep the menu concise, but they get it right. They don't have guacamole, they use "ballpark" nacho cheese, and no fresh salsa, but I can deal with that given that everything else is on point for fast food Mexican.

They are building one in Duncan as we speak. I will buy if you come to the area so let me know.

They also don’t have chicken or pork.

You can sub grated cheese for nacho cheese.

The Chilada is a nice throwback to Taco Tico.

Taco Lite is filling.

So much cheese in the Bean burrito.

Taco Cabana has done a nice job of reinventing itself.

So there is evidently a line outside of Torchies Tacos in Tulsa for their grand opening. Are these tacos really good enough to stand in 6 degree whether to get?

They're average gringo tacos by Austin standards, but in Tulsa they're probably in the top 10%. I would wait a few days for the temps to go up though. Nothing is worth waiting in single digit temps for imho.

I love Torchy’s and I live in Austin. There are some amazing places in Austin but Torchy’s is rightup there imo. Nothing else like it in Oklahoma.

I like my tacos traditional. They don't check many of the traditional boxes. Their barbacoa is also not very good. I usually just stick to fajita steak or chicken which is hard to mess up.

To me to tacos they are what Rudy's is to BBQ. You know what you're going to get and it'll be consistently average, approaching above average range for Texas.

The wife and I went. It was a little warmer than 6 degrees but it was damn cold. We were pretty close to the front when they opened at 5. I had the day off for the MLK holiday. We had planned on hitting it before hand. The really cold weather hit earlier than anticipated. I gave the Mrs. an out, but she wanted to still do it.

I thought it was damn good. They are a little pricy, but if they continue to pack them with as much meat as they did for the soft opening, they are worth it. Everything was free for the opening, as much as you wanted, including 2 alcoholic drinks (I got 3 beers because a woman gave me one of her coins on the way out).
