I wont lie. Its frustrating to see Pettiford and others turn down a 1st round pick and likely $10mil in totally salary, when Oweh is looking to make MAYBE $500k in the NBA when he could have $2mil waiting for him to return. These decisions seem backwards to me, specifically Pettiford coming back. Should be the other way around youd think..

Im hoping hes just using this as an experience for next year. But it sure seems he'd take concession duty if it meant getting into an NBA arena..

NIL is endorsement money.

They can get endorsement money in the NBA too.

But.. Do we know how much? It seems to me that the NIL money is coming from someone or some company, tied to a college fanbase, who wants to see them here and playing to win a title.

I just dont know who within the Toronto Raptors (fan, company, etc) is going to give $2mil to Oweh, just to be the teams 11th man for a few years. Owehs value is so much greater at the college level, UNTIL he proves to be a top120 type of NBA player.

That’s true. But there are other companies that do use pro players.

And no, as a collective “we” do not know what they are getting in NIL.

I do know what a few got/get. And it’s far different than you read on the innerweb. And the whole thing works differently than what you read too.

Now some of the money is coming from university funds earmarked for NIL. But that’s a drop in the bucket.

I do agree that Oweh has more endorsement availability as a UK player than as a development league player or as an end of the bench player.

If the league feels Oweh will get better they will offer him a guaranteed contract and they prefer he gets better on their watch.

If they think Oweh is the player he will always be then they won’t make an offer. Oweh as he is now is not an NBA player.

All good points.. But I still think it boils down to this: Who in an NBA organization is going to give a player like Oweh, any substantial amount of money beyond what his rookie contract is? That's where I just cant see him getting anything, because he's likely not going to see the floor in his first few years, hes far off from carrying a team in the NBA like he carried Kentucky, NBA fans won't know he exists, etc. etc. etc.

I'd also have to look.. but a lot of your 2nd round picks don't even make it to the guaranteed contract part, if I recall.

It just seems like in the NIL era, unless you're a 1st rounder or a very close-to-1st-rounder, you're better off staying at school another year if you can, and getting that $2mil-ish deal. But, I understand that the money isn;t always the goal. Oweh might just really want to get to the NBA, maybe that's his dream.

Pettiford returns to a crap Auburn squad. I hope UK beats them and Alabama unmercifully. Don’t take ur foot off their throat CMP. 😤

I’ll go on record and say they end up top 4 in the SEC. They picked up some good portal players that we were after as well. Agree with the rest of the statement though

Yeah i think so, it was more of a reply to the "companies will use NBA players" and the notion that they can still make make money this route even after school. Which i agree with, they absolute can.. but I just dont think Oweh will be afforded that for some time in the NBA. If he did stay in the draft (which doesn't matter now lol).. he was going to get that 6-figure contract, MAYBE.. and not much else.

Without a guaranteed NBA contract he absolutely made the right call to return.

Certainly it’s a bonus for us that he is returning. But that doesn’t matter at all to the league.

Now we can hope that he does improve to a first rounder. That would be ideal. 👍🏀

Okay Auburn, we'll see your Tahaad and raise you an Otega.

Haha awesome!

Auburn under Pearl will almost always be a SEC contender

Having said that - I hope we beat the brakes off them next year

Wonder if we play them twice in the regular season?

Wait - i can probably look that up somewhere
