Sounds like a cool guy. And I got to chat ball with him after our son’s middle school game a couple weeks ago. But reading the obituary makes me sad, no mention of his faith. I pray he knew Jesus, and even feel somewhat guilty for not sharing faith with him openly that night.
It's the first thing I look for when I read any obit.

It doesn't matter if he didn't profess his faith externally. He was a good man that did good things. You don't have to proclaim your faith or your savior to be welcomed into the kingdom of god. The bible is a book or parables and a guideline to be a good human being. I'm sure his soul is saved and is where most of us will be when the time comes.

Actually, the Bible teaches exactly the opposite of that. Romans 3:12 — no one does good, not even one.

And that is fine if that is what you believe and want to live your life.
Just responding to what you said the Bible taught. It's not a matter of what I believe, it's a matter of what it says. You said the Bible is guideline to be a good human being. I guess I should ask you, where does it say that? I'm always open to be corrected.

It does matter. The Bible is not just a book of parables, yes Jesus spoke in parables to keep the religious Leaders from killing Him before his time. And in terms of expressing your faith Jesus said the exact oposite
Mark 8:38

[38] For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

I really hope people arent going to get into heaven because they think they live good lives or think they've earned anything.... Wow.... If that's the case, heaven is empty

Interestingly, the very book you reference refutes that assertion on the topic - “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." ~ John 14:6
He told us specifically how it works so there wouldn't be any question or confusion on the matter... because he loves us and wants us there... but it is our choice, not works or deeds, that determine the outcome.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." ~ Eph. 2:8-9.
And sadly, some will choose not to believe and therefore not be with him,

Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. 🎄

The Bible is very explicit about entrance into heaven. "Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6 ) Peter also said in Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

Good response as the Bible is not a book of parables, it is the Word of the living God ... this word provides multiple instructions to us who live in the time of the New Covenant that eternity with Christ is based on a relationship with him (Romans 10:9-10 is just one of many) ...

''Good works'' are not a path to heaven which is only achieved by accepting Jesus Christ as your savior.
''Good works'' are godly but are considered ''dirty rags'' if they are hypocritical and are for appearances only.
