“Kepley, along with five other Cubs draft picks from this year, will already debut on MLB Pipeline’s updated Top 30 prospects list next week,”

Is the “Kepley will never make it in the minors” guy here or did he stay at 247?

Pence is now with the Hub City Spartanburgers… Went to Hickory games last night and was hoping to see him pitch but after looking seen he was moved in July I believe

Kepley is impressing the snot out of me. Should be fun to follow his progress. Just noted that in 10 games he has 13 hits with 7 BBs and has been hit 6 times already. Right side of his body staying dotted up.

The first pitch Kane Kepley saw in professional baseball didn’t miss — it hit him. Even before that, he was already in a hole.

Stepping into the batter’s box on Aug. 5 for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Chicago Cubs’ Low-A Carolina League affiliate, the plate umpire flagged the rookie center fielder with a pitch-clock violation before he’d even seen a pitch.

One strike, no swing in his first minor-league plate appearance. Welcome to pro ball. Then came an actual pitch from Fredericksburg Nationals right-hander Bryan Polanco. It drilled him.

Plunked but productive: hot Kepley bringing his brand of grit to Cubs system

Baseball America named Kepley one of this week’s hot prospects. Had this to say about him:

The Scoop: The Cubs’ second-round pick this July out of North Carolina, Kepley has taken to pro ball like a fish to water. Among 2025 draftees, Kepley ranks first in runs, total bases and triples, second in hits and stolen bases and third in walks. This week, he reached base in more than half his plate appearances, slugged his first professional home run and boasted a 9-1 walk to strikeout ratio. Kepley has strong bat-to-ball and on-base skills to go with speed that puts pressure on opposing defenses. An end-of-season promotion to a higher level wouldn’t be shocking. (GP)
