Not bad for a freshman who's playing time has been sporadic, and in the Sweet Sixteen no less.

Around midseason a poster started a thread something like "How good is Tate Sage?" My response then was "He's pretty damn good." I stand by that statement. ;) Man, what a magnificent tournament that kid is having. He's tough. He's aggressive. He has a wonderful shot. He handles the ball well. And he rebounds and, of course, plays tough D. And he has three more years . . .

It’s pretty clear now …actually crystal clear …. that McCollum deliberately seeks players who were overlooked and/or under-recruited AND are driven to prove their worth. The proverbial “chip on the shoulder” recruit. When asked about Sage’s performance vs. Nebraska this was the first thing he mentioned.

He seems to have a very keen eye for overlooked players. It is one of the reasons I’m not overly concerned about Iowa’s NIL budget vis-a-vis other programs. NIL funds are important and Iowa needs to be competitive but McCollum’s recruiting approach will allow him to maximize what is spent.

I think he's got the Cignetti factor in this regard.

I don’t know that I can recall an Iowa freshman that plays with that much poise and confidence. The moment never seems too big for him.
Ricky Davis and another freshman coach tom davis had who was very good but became academically ineligible, maybe his name was Ray Thompson. They were really good.

But yes, Sage can play

I am really excited for the future with guys like Tate, Trey having been in the program for the year, incoming freshman talent, the growth of Alvaro and Cooper and potentially Tavion coming back...etc. If Ben can pick up a valued PG in the portal......watch out

Well...I hope he doesn't lean on this too often.
