There's smoke Jasper Johnson is talking to UL. We run the real risk of u6 becoming the cool school in state. Pope is running a sinking ship.
With as many spots as we need to fill next year if JJ leaves that is another red flag. He’s the type of player who could really be special with strength and more time.

I'm entertained by all the COPE in this thread.

1. "We need guys to fit our system." We don't have a system. Mark Pope used to have a system when he was at BYU. That went out the window this year.

2. "Kinney and Stokes are me-first guys. We don't need that here." This is fallacious. For one, no one knows what type of teammates they actually are. Secondly, they couldn't be any more selfish than the current crew of me first players we've had to deal with so far this season. It wasn't too long ago where Garrison, Oweh, Mo, and Kam were routinely screaming at each other and practice and during game huddles. Get out of here with the sanctimonious crap. We have a player sitting out because he doesn't like his role on the team.

3. "Kentucky guys may not do well under the pressure cooker here." Another fallacy. These guys are going to play in Lawrence, Kansas, one of the most pressure packed programs in the country. Again, the cope in this thread is massive.

4. "We can hit the portal if we don't get the All-American incoming freshman." Oh, like we did this year? Lowe was our second or third choice. Mo was a back-up plan once Wilson spurned Pope. Aberdeen would have never been here if we landed Wilkerson. JQ was a desperate reach once Yaxel turned us down.

Like others have said, Pope's inability to lock up elite high school players and his first choices in the portal is a huge alarming red flag.

I'm liking the feel-good story to this current season, but at some point you have to actually start competing for national championships instead of being impressed that your once- underachieving team starts to suddenly overachieve once everyone loses expectations of them competing for a title.

At some point, Pope needs to get the talent in here that can actually win over 30 games in a season and compete for a final four. Even if Lowe, Kam, and JQ had been healthy this year, we still would have been a top 10-15ish team.

That's not Kentucky good. I'm sick of people lowering the bar just to cope.

Two posters on this board have now said they've heard UL has been in contact with Jasper. One said UNC and UL.
