At the risk of apostasy, and not to hijack the thread, what do I want for Spencer? Go to OSU or PSU to train for a year. Get different partners. Have different coaches provide input about new approaches/ideas. Maybe he already gets that with his visits to the Olympic Training Center but he seems to have hit a plateau. Ten years with the same coaches can't be optimal. Innovation is a good thing. This particular point isn't a knock on TnT; I'd say it about any coach.
Spencer's amazing but I have my doubts about him as a coach. Not only is 2028 is a long way away; his wrestling style doesn't seem to be transferable. It's not like any other Iowa guys, including most particularly the lightweights, wrestle like Spencer on the mat, even though he's been in the room for 9+ years. Spencer's riding ability, his arm-bar tilts, his furious pace, who else wrestles like him?
For the same reason, I have my doubts about how successful Burroughs would be as the head coach. Could he recruit? Sure. Could he coach kids to wrestle like him? Blast doubles from outer space in the blink of an eye? Not even PSU's best wrestles can wrestle like that. The guy was unique.
