Chris Hughes reported a 4AA East team "dealt a crushing blow" because of 8 Quarter Rule. Any ideas who it is?

Would be a contender to make it very deep in the playoffs possibly the title game.

Will it be cleared up before the brackets are final? If so, that opens up a new spot for another team.

You don't know what you are talking about. The 8 quarter rule allows schools who properly use it to sustain a competitive JV squad and still have a few back-ups on varsity when needed. Don't blame the vast majority who do things the right way because a couple of knuckleheads try to take advantage of the rule or simply don't understand how it works. For many schools the 8 quarter rule helps their program. Those schools shouldn't be punished for others ignorance of the rules.

And I agree. What's interesting is, the teams (1A/2A) which it was truly designed for haven't seem to abuse it.

I guess we have to wait and see how the administration deals with this one. As it stands right now the team has been punished for the administration failure to do their jobs. I think that there needs to be some narrowing of the 8 Quarter Rule to allow the 1A and 2A schools that need it to use it. This rule is not for the 3A and 4A programs.

Several 1A and smaller 2A teams would not be able to play of Friday nights if it was not for this rule.

I don't buy that argument. What 1A or 2A team has added a football program because of the 8 qtr. rule? None that I know of. 1A/2A schools fielded teams before the 8 qtr. They'll field one if it goes away.

That being said, I was speaking more in terms of 4A teams. There's no need for it at that level. It's caused nothing but problems. Even when teams were told they were in compliance, it's come back to bite them in the ***.

Name me one 4A school that needs the 8 Qtr. rule to sustain a competitive JV squad and still have backups for varsity.

It's an opinion. You don't have to agree with it. :)

West Charlotte, Garinger etc. If you think it is not some 4a programs with only 30 on the varsity, you are mistaken. Not saying their numbers are like that this year, but has been in the past. Parkland was another over the past few years.

It is not so much of sustaining a JV program. But when you have that 9th grader QB that needs to be your backup on Friday, basically why the rule was put into place, that is when it is needed. Back in the 90s, we had a future All-State QB that did not take any snaps on Thursday as a 9th grader because he had to be the backup on Friday. Our JV team was 0-10, but varsity won the state. It is a price to pay.

This rule is not hard. 9th and 10th graders only. Fill out your forms on Thursday and get them signed. On Monday faxed forms to your conference president and put your information on the NCHSAA website. The problem is that too many people is involved. Do not depend on your AD or Assistant coach to get this done, do it yourself as a HC. Like everything else, if it fall backs on HC, I would like to be responsible.
