Former NFL quarterback and current ESPN broadcaster Tim Tebow is actively pursuing a career in professional baseball and plans to hold a workout for Major League Baseball teams later this month, according to his agents Jimmy Sexton and Nick Khan.

For almost the past year, Tebow has been training in Arizona and Los Angeles to hone his hitting and fielding skills in a sport he has not played on a full-time basis since 2005.

Tebow was an All-State baseball player in Florida that year and hit .494 as a junior, helping Nease High School reach the final four of the Florida state playoffs.

I'm sure some team will take a chance on him if the price is right. Can't hurt to have him in single or double a drawing some big crowds just to see him.

He'll soon find trying to hit Uncle Charlie is the toughest thing he's ever attempted.

Someone will sign him for the publicity alone just to stick in the minors for a year. Just like when the White Sox took on Jordan. Most true baseball fans will realize this is a joke. At 29, the odds are really not in your favor to make it to the majors with a sport you haven't played since high school and wasn't even considered a Top 65 player when he did.

And yes, of course, there was that one exception where the 40 year old Rays reliever made it to the majors for the Rays. That's one exception out of a thousand. Let's not bring that up.

At least Tebow can say he failed professionally at two sports if he does get signed. A lot of guys can't say that.

This attempt to look at me again sickens me and I like Tebow but to think if a club signs him to a minor league contract he basically stole a roster spot from a kid that has been killing himself to get drafted or sign a free agent contract. More than seven years removed from baseball is absurd to consider he could compete for a job and to take away a dream from someone is the worst part

That same argument was made against Jordan when he went out for baseball. At least the Birmingham Barons got a nice new bus out of the deal. Maybe Tebow will do something similar for his team.

Like Tim . Admire his effort. Hope he makes it. Loved watching him play and always wished we had him at QB. Would have got us over the top and to bowls. We just needed a guy winner like him back there.

Call me skeptical. Hitting .494 at the HS level isn't all that unusual, and a lot different than facing pitchers in the Show.

He's obviously not content with the commentator gig. Maybe he should consider entering the coaching field. He's an inspirational guy and seems like the leader type.

Tebow haters tickle me. The guy has done nothing but try to compete and still folks want to dump on him. The sentiment drips with envy. I think the guy misses competition and fells a little unfulfilled since his football career didn't last. Nothing more.

It's a long shot for sure but I played my share of baseball and from the batting cage video I saw that guys got some serious bat speed. Big league pitching is another story but it's as crazy as some might think for an athlete of his ability with some baseball background already to learn to handle that level of pitching over time. Just from form and swing he's looks 100 times more capable than Jordan did for sure.

So just to tick some off, I'm praying for him to succeed.

The thing I never understood about Tebow. If playing football was really his passion then why not try out for the Arena League or the CFL? He completely shunned those areas that might have helped him fix the flaws in his game and allow him to develop. There are many others, including Warren Moon and Kurt Warner who followed this path to tremendous success. Moon is in the HOF and Warner most likely will be as well.

So, if competing is really what its about, why not lace it up for Winnipeg or Portland and play football. It's not the NFL, but it could be a path that will take you there. As for MLB it will be one more sideshow to add to the resume.

Good points. I think the arena league is a great training ground for QB's especially for learning the speed of the game. Like hitting on a 100MPH batting cage or shooting on a smaller rim.

I understand your point, but it's hard for me to call the man a failure. His game just doesn't translate in the NFL. Still a great athlete, and he made some money.

Tebow should stick to being a broadcaster. He has a cushy gig, but I guess some just can't enjoy an amazing job.

Tebow wants to give it a shot and if a team wants to take a chance on him, so be it.

I hope he makes the best of it.

Instead of worrying about these millionaires losing their contract, or that someone won't be called up because of Tebow is amazing... If they're good enough, they'll get there with or without the signing of Tim Tebow...

If you want to worry about something, how about them giving jobs to people that are taking less pay and driving the American pay wages down... This isn't just blue collar worry either, the white collar people need to think about this too....When those that are coming in and getting free educations, then being hired because of their ethnic race, then you'll be able to see more clearly... The white collar money will begin to depreciate, meantime, these friends of Hillary, that are giving her millions of dollars for selling America down the creek...Will be just fine...

You say this will never happen... I was making 50,000 a year back in the mid 80's.... That was 30 years ago... That might not seem like much to people today, but believe me, it was then... Along with the free medical, hospital, dentist, eye, you name it.... Nothing paid out of pocket, even for sun glasses.... Besides the pay, bonuses were given, 3 to 4 thousand a year in bonuses.... Some with free trucks, and merchandise... You think that might spoil some people?

I thought it would never end, but it did.. It didn't hurt me, because I was somewhat luckier than most, but those I worked with went down hill fast..... What happened were that they begin hiring people who took less money to work, and it drove the wages down for the whole industry....

That is what we can worry about, for our sons and daughters, who are coming behind us, they have yet to make their living and it looks like it's going to be rough on them..... Our sons and daughters and grand kids are coming up now, and we look and see what a time that it might be for them... Financially, and socially... That causes me concern..... Not to mention their faith in Jesus Christ our Lord... That is being tested and battled against right now all over the world.. Not just the young, but they're crucifying Christians, cutting the heads off anyone that won't deny God, for allah... Lawlessness is abounding in the streets, as policemen that are being shot dead in the streets, because of their, job, race, religion... Religion? Yes, Isis is killing everyone because of their religion, only they don't cull no one....

But certainly not baseball's over paid players... Don't say this is a capitalist society either, because the democratic move to the far left is bringing in socialism across the board....

Sorry about this political rant on a sports site, where people come for relaxation... Plus, it wasn't against you poster, your post was just a kicking off point... This will probably be erased before you read it anyway... Just had to say this...

Again poster, this is not nothing against you at all.... Just a breaking point and I had to get it off my chest..... NOW!!! GO CATS!!!
