I lost my dad at 18, so I'll share mine








The funniest one, my dad told me this me reminded him of me. Told me he listened to it everyday on the way to work (3hr drive)

Not sure how to post a video but the one song that really affects me when I hear it is. "The Living Years" by Mike and The Mechanics.

The lyrics tell about not being there when your father passes away. I was on my way to the hospital when he died.

They also go on to tell about hearing his fathers echo in his new born baby's tears later that year. My daughter was born later on the same year my father passed away.

Hell, it's starting to affect me now and I'm not even listening to the song. :cry:

The suicide of the frontman for Frightened Rabbit hit me over the weekend. I got into them several years ago with The Midnight Organ Fight album, and their music (and especially the lyrics) were so emotionally heavy. The guy basically spent his life writing about his mental health issues until they finally did him in. His last two tweets: https://twitter.com/owljohn are just such a bummer. Here's the song he wrote 10 years ago that basically describes how he literally did himself in, hits pretty hard:

We lost the 3rd/4th grade city soccer championship game after going undefeated during the regular season. We lost to the rich kid school, a school we had beaten 6-0 earlier in the season, in a penalty kick shoot-out. Piss poor coaching on our side; I had 3 goals in the first game, yet in this game they played me at goalie. We were tied 1-1 at the end of the game, then they subbed me out of goal for the shootout. Nice job coach. Good thinking.

Anyway, this effing song was on the radio when I got into the car after the game, and then again when I got to my room. I've hated Debbie Gibson ever since, and when I hear this song I think about those f*gs from Fairmont Elementary we lost to back in 87.

Unfortunately there's more than one that reminds me of lost loved ones.




These Next ones were played at my Grandma's Funeral a couple months ago. The last one was at my Uncle's almost 2 years ago. I can't ever listen to these any other time without breaking down.






If you were ever in the military, these songs will get to you.

I lost my mom in October 2013 and my dad in May 2014. To lose both parents that close to each other was tough. My daughter was born in June 2014 so I too can relate to this song.

Some good choices already.

Hate her newer stuff, but Mariah made some solid "memory" songs in her heyday. 2 come to mind.





First time I heard this song I cried like a baby and I am a pretty tough person when it comes to showing my emotions. Played at both my parents funerals and I had to leave the room both times. Was just too hard to listen to.

My thoughts on aging. The lost loved one is my GD youth, good and bad.






This one helped me cope with the accidental shooting death of a very close friend my freshman year of high school. I'm also requesting this one plays at my funeral.
