That’s the problem, the initial spot was way off causing the refs to say he was short, so the ****** views of the play have to be used to overturn a terrible spot. Had the initial spot been even remotely accurate the on field call could have gone the other way, which then would be too close to overturn that call. This was always going to be the problem with replay. It sucks and is just as inaccurate and as biased as before.

Sometimes the angle and other players during the play make it impossible to tell but we want them to fix the call anyway. With the Tech we have why doesn't the ball have some chip installed so the first down markers detect if it made the line to gain or not? if nothing else, the sidelines and end zone should be able to be monitored by better than a pylon camera.

I think its going to spark legitimate discussion about the alcohol sales in SEC stadiums. This is still pretty much a brand new thing. No limits were tested last year without many fans, and it didn’t take long for something like this to happen. Maybe stricter limits on sales times (have to stop before 4th quarter, midway through 3rd, etc).

Jeez l, I had hoped my fellow MSU people had scored at least a 10 on the ACT reading comprehension section. I will have to say I'm disappointed. Maybe if I type it slowly. They got the call right. That being said after years of bad calls and either silence or defending bad calls, nobody trusts the SEC refs, SEC replay officials, or the SEC office anymore. What you saw tonight is the result of that. The SEC always leans toward defending calls that favor the higher ranked teams. SEC fans absolutely know this. I'm sure the SEC will punish UT, and rightfully so, but they need to examine the underlying currents, which they absolutely WON''T. Nothing ever changes in the SEC.

So even though they correctly performed their duties exactly as they were supposed to on that play, it’s still the refs / SEC’s fault this happened, because….reasons?

What actually sparked the riot was a close play in crunch time, on what would have been a miracle play, that didn’t go UT’s way. This was the final catalyst. The build-up to this powder keg involved a bunch of drunk fans, a night game, a long *** game with frustrated fans getting pissed off about OM players faking injuries after every play to disrupt tempo (mostly ignoring that UT players were doing the same), and oh yeah the most hated former UT coach in their 100+ year history was on the opposing sideline for the first time as a head coach in Neyland Stadium after a disgraceful exit. A lot of bad blood from past and present, and their idiot fans couldn’t keep from showing their asses. The replay / call was not even close to the reason behind that embarrassment. It just gave the fans the final push they needed to do what they had wanted to do for 4 hours.

I did and I think MOST people get it. That call on the field was likely correct, but the trust of the terrible refs constantly getting everything wrong finally came to a head. To me replay is still a major problem in this, they still get that wrong all the time.

That’s happened dozens of times AFTER games. It’s literally never happened in the middle of a game where the outcome was still in doubt.

This crew robbed TN of a scoop and score touchdown, called intentional grounding on Ole Miss in the end zone for a safety (the ball landed about 3 yards in front of a receiver), and had many questionable spots throughout. Ironically, the receiver on the controversial play was almost certainly short of the first down, but not by a full yard.

That crew should never be allowed to officiate again.

If it’s the same crew that we had at Memphis, and I don’t know if it was, but they never should have been on the field tonight. That’s the problem, no repercussions whatsoever.

A fan threw a stuffed animal onto the court as Mississippi State' Quinndary Weatherspoon was shooting a free throw in the closing second of a tight game. Georgia was assessed a technical, allowing Weatherspoon another free throw in a 68-67 victory.

You're missing the point. He never said they got the call wrong or were wrong in their handing of the replay . They sparked the riot because they did not give Tenn the ball and SEC crews have been pointed out repeatedly for getting the call wrong before this game... so the crowd was sure they were getting yet another screw up by a SEC crew.

We are actually on the same page. I never said you were wrong and never said they made a mistake going to or what their call was on replay.

I’ve been thinking that on the chips in footballs for years. We should be able to pinpoint the exact moment the knee(or other body part) goes down then then be able to see where the ball was at that instant. They could test it in just a few games where the info was for research only with no bearing on the game just to see how accurate, smoothly the process went.

The technology might be there, and it might not. Goal line technology is absolutely there, it's used at the top levels of European soccer. That's a fixed, unmoving line though. The first down line is different.

Speaking of Curlee’s crew, it’s worth noting most of those bottles were not thrown by TN fans. It all started when the back judge dropped a bunch of bottles on the ground to mark that the ball had been downed.
