Like others have said. Once we start winning and beat them a couple times in a row, they will consider us their #1 rival again. Stoops will have us back on top soon.

No, others said IF we start winning some against them. There is no guarantee of a "when" there when they have better players and the better coach if nothing else due to having said much better players.

And no, UK will never trump Alabama or FL as a top 2 rival for UT.

I remember when CATS were Vols number one rival! They were hard to beat back then but we beat then once in a while! Understand now they have the largest recruiting budget than any other SEC team! Back in my horse training days got to know UT All- American and All- Pro Doug Atkins pretty well. Asked him one morning in Fairgrounds race track kitchen how in the heck does his Vols keep getting all their good players? His response was "General Neyland saw that we always had chewing gum and I chewed a lot!" Wonder about in the now???

I don't think Tennessee will have the depth next year to compete for the title. Maybe the SEC east....but I think there are four teams in the west that will be as good or better than the Vols.

Don't think Bama would consider the vols a rivalry, Bama has beat them , what 10 times in a row, ........tn fans have forgotten, that they have sux to, for a few years ,

They feel the same about us, think they are on Bama's level, or at least feel they should be.

Maybe the common fans feels this way but that's not the majority. We've never really been on Bama's level and never will. They expect to be in the SECCG 7-8 out of 10 years. I feel like most realistic Tenn fans think 3-4 out of 10 years is good. Now the next couple or so years Tenn has to take advantage of all the coaching changes and IMO a weaker East division. With basically the East traditionally bring a 3 team race, I don't think it's to much to ask to be there 1/3 of the time. For the UK fans, you guys are our rival and just because Tenn has owned this rivalry for the most part, doesn't mean the UK game isn't a big game to us. I respect UK as a program but I also expect us to win the game. I read this board a lot but don't post much. I see you all down on Stoops and I don't get it. You all have got to give that guy some time. I absolutely think he's a good coach and belongs in this league but I don't care how good of a coach you are, it takes players. Players make the difference on the field.

Lol that's not true. I guarantee you that if Kentucky starts winning more often, that rivalry will get back to where it was quickly. Trust me on that.
That is about the funniest thing I have heard in a LONG time.."get back to where it was quickly" Now when , if ever, was it ever back to where it was ? I'm 50 years old and can only remember a few times we lost to you. Funny

The ACC wishes they had invited UC over ul at this point. UC is a bigger market, better at FB most years and would be a better BB program in the long run. The only thing ul has is they get a lot of viewers from Louisville for games because there is nothing to do there except watch sports unlike other areas and better cities.
I'm convinced this poster is a UL fan hiding behind a UK screen name. The isn't enough stupid in the world.

Jancek the defensive co was let go today. Look for Bob Shoop from Penn St to get the job. Huge upgrade in coaching and recruiting.

You think Stoops is a good coach ? Rick Pitino thought Tubby Smith was a great hire by UK. He also recommended Travis Ford and possibly John Pelphrey if I'm not mistaken. He had no issue with Billy Clyde either. He hated that we hired Cal. Not trying to be a jerk but I'm thinking most fans of our opponents are using the same rationale with Stoops. L1C8..

Are my early pick to be the 2016 national champions. I'll admit I doubted Butch Jones when he was hired but he's getting it done. They were 9-4 this season but.....they had a 14 point lead in three of the four losses and in the other they had the lead late in the game at Alabama. They were easily the most talented team we played this year IMO. If the QB doesn't get hurt they're about to explode. Plus, they get Alabama at home and their OOC test is Va Tech in Bristol who they'll absolutely roll.
January 6th is not too early to start thinking about the 2016 season. Certainly not for these Athlon guys! [laughing] The Usual Suspects in the Top 5 or 6 with AL at the top. Business as usual for UK with TN at #8, GA #20, UofL #22 and FL #25. AL at TN should be a dandy.

Peace

The bowl season usually causes some overreaction and people hopping on the Volwagon are going to be wrong. I think they can have a great season 10-2, division champs, New Years Six game, etc. but I cant see a national title yet. I think they are still a few years away. they need to learn to consistently win as a team first. They will also be replacing the DC so that unit will depend on who they hire.

I think VT will give them a game, complete change in offense and mentality. Its not like VT is lacking for talent...they just needed a fresh face.

You say that like it was a rivalry when UK was winning a lot, but growing up in a house with a UK fan and a UT fan, and being an alum of both schools I can say unequivocally that two things are true: 1) UT fans don't really consider UK a rival they just consider it an embarrassment to lose to UK and 2) there is really no history of competitiveness to get the rivalry back to. I'm sure if UK became competitive it would heat up, but UT definitely considers Florida and Georgia and Vandy (equivalent of UK/UL) its primary rivals in the East.

I had actually picked them to win the East this past season.

I agree with you they have so much talent that I would not be surprised to see them in the hunt.

Butch Jones has not proven that he can get it done though. He made some in-game coaching decisions comparable to Mark Stoops that cost them games. He has not proven himself yet.
I never really understand that argument. When I look at Jones' record at UT there are 5 wins then 7 wins then 9 wins. It sounds to me exactly like he is proving he can get it done. Just don't see a comparison with Stoops in any way, unfortunately for Stoops.

Butch Jones hasn't accomplished much yet by the old UT standards. I'm not sold. His in game coaching, especially late game coaching, is as bad as anyone save maybe stoops in the SEC.

UT fans are pitiful. The only place you can find them is in East Tennessee nowadays. Middle and west tn are full of Alabama fans. Hibbetts sports in the wolf chase mall of Memphis has more Alabama gear than UT. same in my hometown of dyersburg.

The Tennessee brand is badly damaged. As a life long UK fan bred on the cats and growing up in Tennessee with these god awful fans, I hope they never recover.

Must be why UT is one of the most valuable college sports brands in America. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissm...le-teams-2015-texas-notre-dame-and-tennessee/

Dobbs is a very good college QB. The guy they are getting next season in Guarantano is an absolute beast. If they keep recruiting the way they are, and Guarantano is able to RS, it's only a matter of time until they are a favorite to win it all.

Haha Are you kidding me?!? There is a reason we used to battle for the Beer Barrell. Let me give you something to read. There are many, many more websites about the rivalry and some are even on UT's side, if you care to look it up. Theres a lot of history between the 2 schools. There's no rivalry there just the same as there's no rivalry between Uk and UL, either.

A) Hard to call someone else stupid when you have the following sentence in your post: "The isn't enough stupid in the world."

B ) While I doubt the ACC would prefer to have UC over UL, it is true that no one in the ACC is doing cartwheels over UL being there. It was a reluctant addition at best. The ACC is a great academic conference, and UL certainly brought down the lowest common denominator in that department. Throw in the numerous scandals and it's not been a total bed of roses. I will say that UL has helped ACC football, but not sure how much many of those schools really care about football.

Actually, Knoxville is really a nice place to live. It has everything, mountains, lakes, rivers, urban areas, and no state tax. Much, much better than Lexington.
...really no state taxes..?...try 10 percent sales tax, how about wheel taxes,oh and lets not forget that fine term , right to work state, and but one thing i give it to Knoxville tho,if you just get out of jail, or just get back from a hunting trip, you can go straight to a football game still wareing the same orange shirt.....lol...go Cats ...

10% sales tax??? Please what is Ky 6.8 and then another 6% income tax? Not to mention wheel tax in the places who does have it mostly 20 bucks per wheel. In Kentucky you pay hundreds of dollars every year just like you bought the car again each year.

Tn is growing leaps and bounds because of the taxes. Don't believe me? All you have to do is go down by Clarkesville Tn and you can look east and you can look west on each side of the interestate and can tell the exactly where the state line is at. Houses galore on the Tn side and nothing on the ky side.

Every thing was cheaper down here than ky, gas prices, electric, roads better, etc etc. All ky knows what to do is tax everything and they wonder why it's so hard to attract business and people.

I can't stand UT, but realistically they can win the East and contend for a spot in the playoffs. However, they have to beat Florida first. Like UK, they've had Tennessee's number for several years now.

Butt hurt lol, really the Vols shafted Fulmer, and not been good for a while and this year they won what 9 games, and they act like , they finished in the top three in the nation, lol...

I am curious what year was the last year that UK won 9 games? I think the kind of steady progress that UT is making is exactly what UK should be achieving, but are not.

If you think Joker left UK ANYWHERE near the same shape Dooley left UT, you're a GD idiot. Plus, UT invests a TON into their FB program, couple that with the amount of in-state talent they have been able to bring in and that's a recipe for how they are where they are.

Fact is, in the SEC arms race, UK has spent money like a 3rd world African country while the rest of the SEC has spent like the cold war era US. I'd guess, over the last 50 years, UK is probably a billion+ behind what the major players have invested in there programs. That's not a 3 year fix. Hell, that may not be a 10 year fix.

Fans were happy to be the best in a lesser popular sport rather than demand a better FB program...and the administration financially supported that program.

I've always thought if UK would make a true investment, they could be a player in FB. If UT is spending 1.5 mil in recruiting, UK needs to spend 3 mil. It's gonna take time and money.

And patience.
