For those still awake and getting their CBB fix:

Surprised UVA is only down one at half.

Really haven’t seen much from the big ugly orange this early in the season to suggest we are behind them in the SEC pecking order as most predicted.

They’re trash. They couldn’t beat us in coonskin town when they had Knecht. Whose beating this UK team now? Ziegler? Don’t make me laugh. Barnes’ days of being competitive with UK up and vanished with Cal like a fart in the wind.

Also, UL is trash too for getting punked by these chumps by double deuces in the grease bucket.

Man, these guys are ice cold. It makes me wonder if the venue is just terrible. It's like a huge banquet hall. I'm thinking the sight lines must be terrible.
Baylor and St Johns had no issues. 98 to 99. These teams just can't score. Tennessee's defense isn't horrible but that's all they have going for them. To be fair I don't get to watch all of their games. Maybe its an off night but this is bad.

I cant find hint of offense for either team. Tenn. isn't gonna do much in conference if they can't score.
They still play great defense and are sound fundamentally but I don’t see a game changer on offense that they can consistently go to…which you need in a slowed down half court offense. Either have to be able to post someone that can score consistently or have someone who is good in the iso game when playing traditional 2 in/3 out flex offense

Keeping a small Rebounding margin and staying o it of foul trouble with our bigs will be the key to beating them (and the key for us in 90% of games this season)

Yeah, you may be right. Virginia is known for its low scoring and Tennessee has been decent on defense, so these teams are just not making shots. Ugly basketball... 🤣

There defense isn't bad at all for sure. Tomorrows game against Baylor will give us a better idea though. I doubt UV is gonna pull an upset.

I still can’t see how Virginia won a championship playing this style. Mind boggling to me.

Baylor and St John have zero defense. I hope Orange loses tomorrow but Baylor will not get 70 points tomorrow. VA has a smothering defense as well. VA has 19 points in second half and 16 turnovers.

Ref help. If we had gotten to play them that year we'd have eaten them alive.

They did get ref help, but disagree we would have beaten them. That UVA team beat the Zion Duke team twice. Yeah, the Duke team that gave UK it’s worst loss since 150-95 against KU. They were loaded with upperclassmen.

It really is. They had a little NBA talent on that team but when you play such a limited possession game, you really shrink your margin for error.

One of the biggest mistakes Cal has made throughout his collection of talent. Increase possessions, play as fast as possible, it’s more opportunities for raw talent to win out. Win you want to play rock fights, the game swings on 10 possessions or less

Barnes plays a similar style to Cal so that probably explains why he had a winning record against him while at UT. The difference the last few years is Barnes had good defensive teams whereas Cal’s teams stunk on defense. Probably because older players versus younger players.

They’re still elite defensively and always will be under Barnes but they don’t have anywhere near the offensive fire power they had last year in Knecht. I still bet they finish towards the top 5 in conference just because that hack and grab defensive approach throws teams off. But offensively it’s hope Lanier and the white guy who can shoot 3s save us

Zion was 2-0 vs UVA that year. They owned the Hoos

You can’t still be awake and also be watching Tennessee and Virginia play basketball against each other, it’s literally impossible to stay awake for such a thing.

My mistake. Still maintain that UVA team had 4 very good upperclassmen, plus another upperclassman contributor in Key, plus DeAndre Hunter. I hate Bennett’s style, but they earned that title.

Not to get too far off topic, but agree with you about not understanding why we didn’t try to increase possessions.

To that point, I’ve always been curious how the game would’ve evolved differently if instead of a set time limit for games, the first team to score 75 or 80 won the game. Don’t think you’d have a lot of these teams that simply try to bleed clock on offense to reduce the number of possessions.

And they were on a redemption mission after the stinging embarassment of being the first 1 seed to lose to a 16

I thought I might need a sleep aid tonight. Turns out this game is making me plenty sleepy.
With or without Tony Bennett Virginia still can't score. I would like to recommend to the CIA if they ever wanted to make our enemy talk. Just tell them that they're going to force them to watch a Virginia basketball game. They would tell every secret that they had anything is better than being forced to watch that crap.

How truly awful that UVA allowed themselves to be held hostage. The whole timing of Bennett's departure was intentional to allow him to give the job to his own system guy. Now they're stuck with A) the same bogus offensive scheme and B) no way out until they fire his ***.

They're in for a loooooong season with that awful product.
