I know we are stuck with Stoops for a while. But what do you guys think about Terry Bowden as his replacement?

No Way! He won at Auburn because of Pat Dye's recruits. He left Auburn because of an affair with a Cheerleader. We don't need that. There are much better coaches we can get, but the last time I looked, a guy named Stoops was the coach at UK.

Just wondered. And yes Stoops is the coach and he's clueless. Petrino also had an affair and we all know how that's going.

But I do understand the argument about success with another coaches recruits.

Bowden had an undefeated season, and was fired by Auburn not too much later. Chizik won a national title, and was fired by Auburn 2 years later. Malzahn got to the title game, and is in danger of being fired by auburn 2 years later. I bet it's hard to find another school with even one of those, Auburn has 3 in recent history...

Do you have a link documenting an affair with a cheerleader?

All I can tell you is I live here in Alabama and that was the rumor going around at the time. The demise of coaches at AU is due to the success of Nick Saban. AU wants to be the equal of Bama but they will always be the little brother of Bama.

So its just a rumor going around Alabama. I heard a very different rumor regarding Bowden's departure, but since I'm not a resident I don't qualify as an expert like you so I'll keep it to myself.

I'd take him as an assistant...that's about it...same for his brother who spent a year in lexington and built a solid clemson program.

Both have winning records as HC, both know the recruiting pipelines of the south.

It appears some, not all, wants UK to become a Divinity School instead of a football program.

Gotta friend that played at Auburn with Bo Jackson and is still somewhat involved with the program . I asked him what happen with Bowden . He said , " ya know , lots of coaches screw co-eds , but you can't screw the University Presidents NIECE ! Now I'm not saying that's true , but I thought it was funny .

I am sick to death of people talking about"we don't need that here" or the provable "i will never wear any of my blue/white if they hire that guy" First whats your size? I would give anything to have Bobby Petrino today. I wanted him when he fell off the motorcycle. Ohh and to add a little gasoline to the fire I wanted Howard from day one. The UK administration hated him. Im ready to win and choirbiys AIN'T GETTING IT DONE!!!!!

I would hope that UK is done hiring the relatives of successful coaches. That has rarely worked. Terry had some success at Auburn but there has to be a reason he was fired there years ago and basically not heard from again. Why is he at Akron instead of a bigger program?

Not to mention all those concerned with the coaches Christianity don't seem to believe a coach can be redeemed, forgiven, changed, etc.

I just told a friend of mine 2 major mistakes in UK's hiring of a football coach. The two were Howard Schnellenberger and Bobby Petrino. both could of and should of, been hired as UK's football coach.

Not an expert just relying what I heard, the thing that got the fire Bowden thing going is he went to a concert before a big game that they subsequently lost. Many factors led to the resignation which included he was using Mary Jane and the number one Booster at AU hated him as Coach. Not that any of this matters just telling what was going around at the time. Bowden has to have some dirty laundry or he would not have been off the sidelines for as long as he was.

I have no idea what he is like in real life but here at Cats Illustrated, he is a real scoundrel.

What did the cheerleader look like. We can forgive if she was extremely hot. Oh, and if he can win.

No. The point was Auburn has 3 examples of coaches who had at least one year of tremendous success only to be fired pretty quickly thereafter. That has to be pretty rare.

But you could add Tubberville as more evidence that at Auburn, it really is what have you done for me lately. He had that undefeated year in, what 2004, only to be pushed out later (and if the Petrino thing had succeeded, it would have been even earlier)......

It appears some, not all, want UK to be a semi-pro football team instead of an institution of higher learning.

With that said, I couldn't care less about someone's private personal life. In Petrino's case, however, the position he put the University of Arkansas in with his hiring practices and failure to be truthful about it with is boss is his disqualifying factor. His affair is immaterial.

I don't have a link, but I was turkey hunting with a former QB who played under Dye and Bowden, and he told me. I was hunting just at Gold Hill, Alabama which is just outside Auburn. I have hunted there for several years in the spring. There and Selma, Alabama. Still have a lot of friends there.
