So he felt more appreciated by going elsewhere for... checks notes... the exact same role?
He got the AHC title and more $...didn't he?
But if you don't feel appreciated where you are then why stay? That goes for any job. People leave for lateral moves with more money "in the real world" just like coaching.
Loyalty benefits the employer not the employee

I have no idea if he got more money. It's just odd that the source of him feeling underappreciated seemed to be PSU being unwilling to promote him out of DL coach, and then he went elsewhere to be DL coach. Yes people take lateral moves all the time but in this case the issue seemed to be his role, so leaving without really changing his role strikes me as unusual, but whatever.

It wasn't "the role". It was the lack of respect shown when they didn't promote him.
And I'm 99.99% sure his title did change.
Think about it. If you work at your job for years...do an amazing job and they bring in someone else from the outside are you going to stay or leave? If you say stay...that's what employers want because it means they can continue to underpay you and have no need to promote you.
Why stay when you're not appreciated? Actions speak loudly.

There are ways to be appreciated aside from a promotion. In the event of a head coaching change where new coaches largely replace the entire staff, even getting to retain your job is a sign of appreciation.
