When I was in the Air Force, I went to tech school near Wichita Falls TX... One weekend, a friend of mine that I met in tech school, was talking about how great the strip clubs are in Montreal Canada, and at the time I was 19, I had never been to a strip club... So, he setup a weekend pass for us both, and took me to a strip club just a few miles from base, which was a popular destination for airman wanting to blow a weeks pay.... While there, there was a healthy # of locals, mostly cowboys & energy workers, some of which was sitting near our table, as most Texans are patriotic many struck up conversations with us, and all left except one. This dude was a walking & talking replica of Sam Elliott. Same face, beard, voice, freaking identical, cowboy hat and all...

After a few drinks, I finally take my friend up on his offer to pay for my first gifted lap dance, when I get back and as IM sitting back down, this Sam Elliott replica gets up, and as he speaks, looks at my dead in the eyes, and says "Gents, anything worth doing, is worth over doing, and if your doing it, make sure to do it Texas Style" Tips his cap and walks out...

While I LOVE nothing more then for WVU to beat Texas, if you asked me which BIG12 team that I would want WVU to beat the most, it will always be Texas, but the people of Texas, in many ways remind me of old school WV generations. Hard around the edges, but full of selflessness & character, a free living people. While I cant recall the *** or tits of the girl who gave me my first lap dance, I recall perfectly that old dude imparting a little wisdom on some young bucks just stepping onto life's journey.

UT CAN SUCK IT! I hope we beat them so badly they fire Peewee after the game, but the people of Texas are hard to dislike. Well, at least the hard working blue collar folks I met, not the silver spooned trust fund baby brats because their great grandfather bought(stole) oil rich land from an Indian for a few jars of whiskey and maybe some buffalo jerky...

Ah yes, Wichita Falls, childhood home of J.T. Barrett, and the place where the Dallas Cowboys held training camp for several years. It's as hot as blazes in Wichita Falls, right? You're right about Texas. I was in Frisco for the opening of Cowboys' new headquarters there in 2016, and couldn't believe the incredible level of economic development in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Texas doesn't feel the same way. We're just another team on their schedule. Texas only sees OU.

Wichita Falls really isn't a true representation of Texas.

That is pretty much dead center of Comancheria.
Quanah isn't too far from there. Named after Quanah Parker.
Little North of there is Lawton, OK and Ft Sill. Was created to deal with the Comanches.

Wichita Falls does occasionally produce some football players. I think both TCU and Tech have a few players from there. Of course JT Barrett is from there.

Too far from the Metroplex and too close to the Panhandle and Oklahoma.

You can actually divide the state 7 maybe 8 times to create different states.
Only thing they have in common between them is a state pride in your face. It is weird not to see a Texas flag somewhere.

Continue being an idiot on here.

Pointing out a fallacy many have
El Paso is closer to the beginning of the I-10 terminus in Santa Monica than it is Orange, TX in more ways than one.

Wichita Falls would be considered the Panhandle. Amarillo/Lubbock.
Nothing there. Most of people in Texas don't even have a clue how it is there.

I do because of driving US 287 up to Colorado.

Texas isn't much different than many other states. Ohio has urban dwellers, suburbanites, farmers, and hillbillies, and almost always sides with the winner of the Presidential Election, likely due to its diverse population.

Texas was a state that was created because of a larger global struggle between France and Spain.

Spain didn't take Texas serious until the French started moving in from Louisiana.

Just different. Then it became somewhat more when Mexico won their independence and Louisiana was purchased by the United States.

No one state has the history of West Virginia because the Civil War created the state.
No state is like Texas because it won its own independence from Mexico after most of Mexico revolted against their government.
Was its own independent country for awhile.

Yes HOT&HUMID! One of my favorite artists is Stevie Ray Vaughn, my brother and I have both played guitar since we was both kids, and always preferred the blues, esp SRV songs...(Lenny is my personal favorite) "Texas Flood" was a song to me, but when I was in TX, it only rained maybe 2-3 times while I was there, and each time it was hurricane Forest Gump level rain. The ground was so hard & baked, it couldnt absorb it, so it simply flooded everywhere, every time... It was kind of strange to see how the dry earth initially rejected natures solution, and how that rejection could cause such damage..

When I was in Hell week outside of San Antonio, camping out in 20-30 men tents, a tornado touched down on base, and we had to sleep that night in the cinderblock latrine, I was lucky enough to find a bench, as the water backed up the plumbing from the showers, so everyones feet was soaked with old shower water, it was disgusting.

After the storm passed, the next morning, the desert came alive immediately, everything suddenly turned green and cactus flowers bloomed, philosophically it brought to mind the hardness, fruits & wildness of nature. How quickly life can come forth from nothingness, and the preciousness of water. Even in the midst of death, life is yearning to be freed. Much beauty in struggle, thus theres much beauty in those who reside and learn to thrive in such environments, beauty in those who struggle. One reason why I think there are many similarities between many WVians and the blue collar folks of TX... Two different types of struggle, but they both have the same effect.

If I lived in TX, I would probably choose Dallas or Austin, maybe Houston, I liked San Antonio, but Dallas or Austin are probably more aligned with my personality & career... One thing you gotta respect about Texans is there absolution for individual independence, responsibility, & accountability..........and no state income taxes too :)

If you havent watched "Hell or High Water" starring Chris Pine, its a great movie that shines a little light on brotherly love, the west texas struggle, and determination to fight "the man"...

San Antonio is different.

If WVU ever plays in the Alamo Bowl you should visit the city.
They put on a show almost to a New Orleans level.

San Antonio is a very much a Latin city in an Anglo world.
But one thing that remains is their hospitality. That is why the NCAA loved hosting the Final 4 there.

San Antonio is very different than the rest of Texas.
Always been that way. Even when the Anglo world moved in.

jumble of races, costumes, languages, and buildings", which gave it a quality that only New Orleans could rival in what he described as "odd and antiquated foreignness."
This was an entrance in a book of travels through the South and Texas in 1859
Fredrick Law Olmsted.
The man who designed Central Park.

This is a good movie. Here is short clip with the man explaining the different states of Texas.

He is from Carthage. In Panola County. Named after Panola County, MS. Panola is the Choctaw word for Cotton

I grew up along the Canadian border. I spent ages 19 - 21 in Niagara Falls nearly every weekend....and considerable time throughout my 20s.

The moment you crossed the Rainbow Bridge drinking, gambling, and strip clubs were all available and legal, it was heaven on Earth for a 19 year old guy. We called the strip clubs, The Canadian Ballet.

Back then the best strip joint in town was called Sundowners and there was a night club called Rumors on Cliffton Hill which was awesome. You'd meet women from all over the world who were vacationing and had hotel rooms across the street.

I worked at a country club and would save my tip money all week, then a group 4 - 6 of us would split a hotel at the falls on weekends. I would party and gamble until about 3 AM, then wake up early on Saturday morning and drive back into America and work my shift (mens locker room bar, caddie, ect.), when work was over drive back to Canada and do it all again...then back to work early Sunday morning.

I would find piles of canadian cash stuffed in gym bags or jean pockets that I won gambling or exchanged currency and had forgotten about...definitely one of the best times of my life.
