Brandon Smith, Chris Bell, Ricky Slade, Devyn Ford…recently it hasn’t been great. PA, OH, NJ, and MD much more important IMO. We did get MRob though…
Kaytron Allen, Tyler Warren, Tony Rojas, Donkoh, Gross-Matos, Lambert-Smith, McSorley, Daeshean Hamilton, Hakeem Beamon, Nick Scott…..

Going back a little farther, DJ Dozier, David Macklin, Evan Royster, Tony Hunt, Levi Brown….

Transfers to PSU Jordan Stout, Ellis Brooks,

That’s just Virginia. I didn’t even dive into DC or MD.

For sure, HS recruiting will remain a "thing", obviously.

But I expect that PSU's "roster competitiveness" over the next few years will hinge far more on "portal" than HS recruits.
Longer-term, depending on how the landscape plays out, "portal" could become the more important avenue for just about every team (but, that of course will vary on how the legal/regulatory landscape plays out). Obviously.

PS: Under the new coach, what is the new "buzzword" going to be?
Literally....You literally hear it everywhere.

If true. Va Tech found an AD dumber than Jim Weaver (yes, I know it's poor form to speak ill of the dead, in this case both of them).
Yeah that “dumb” Va Tech AD has hired a very good coach more than 2 weeks before the early signing period for high school kids when the vast majority sign and 6 weeks before the start of the two week transfer portal window. Meanwhile, Krafty is . . . who the hell knows.

Meaning leaning more on the portal?
The DMV has been very good to us. National recruiting, and especially out of the South, is important, certainly.

IF... IF the rules around xfers and NIL ever change with some common sense injected into them, HS recruiting could become important again. Or at least on par (ish) with the portal.
And I recognize that "common sense" might only come around with some sort of contract being in place. Not ideal, and I know there's a big effort to work around that.
The operative words were “lean on”. Think bigger.

That is only because you think BGJ is an excellent coach and top 5 or 10 in the country. Curious, would you just let him continue to lose every big game all the while getting huge raises @ PSU? Or are you one of these prisoner's dilemma people....we had to fire him but we also have no shot of getting anyone as good so our program is doomed forever? The program is dead, our choice is with Franklin or someone new but it is dead?
Yeah genius Franklin lost every game he coached at PSU.

How many D1 players come out of those areas? Fleming is one. Who else?
Not many . The best years are gone with dwindling enrollments . A really good LB from Southern did well at Michigan State not too long ago .
There are 2-3 at James Madison contributing at present . I think that’s what Nit may be referencing.

Tech is looking to get above .500 and James can do that. It’s a good hire for Tech.

That’s not going to cut it at PSU.

Not as good as PA/OH counterparts. That said, it’s an important state. Their five stars tend to fall flat for whatever reason though. And I said MD was more important. Will Franklin be able to recruit to Blacksburg? I’m skeptical.

I think many people in this thread don’t understand what the DMV is and isn’t.

It’s NoVa (Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax/Prince William, Loudon), DC, PG/Montgomery County in Maryland.

Has Penn State ever had any good players from Delaware? They seem to be the weakest link in the DMV state triumvirate.

Why VT? Just by reading some posts on this board, I figured LSU or FL would have given “big game James” a lifetime contract at 15+ million!

Guessing some of you JF lovers can move over to the VT board and stay there.
I don’t understand the hate for him that dorks like you have. Yeah, he failed to get the job done, but he did a lot of good as well.

VT doesn’t pull a ton of kids from NoVA. Their current class has a few 3*’s but that’s it. They’re way more into southern VA/VA Beach kids. They have one DeMatha recruit.

PSU only had verbals from 2 of the top 15 recruits in Va this year. Clemson a much bigger threat in VA to VT.
That’s why I was liking a Dabo 2, reboot here . Seems like he’s in a JF vitriolic situation with Clemson despite his NCs. If he “gets” the NIL changes it would be interesting . But I would guess he has the SEC and maybe only Bama in consideration if he changes programs .
Kiffin seems to be shopping UF, LSU . The carousel is spinning at dizzying speeds.

Devon Still was also from Howard Institute in Delaware. He was the Big Ten Defensive player of year in 2011.

Brandon Snow (a very good FB for us) was from Newark HS in Delaware.
Going way back to our days, Mike Meade, another bruising fullback, was also from Delaware, if I recall.

I think the person who said DMV is DC, Maryland, and Virginia is correct, in the context of recruiting.

The good news is we don’t have to wait very long to watch this play out. Get your VT gear ready.
The conversation was about PSU recruiting the area and you questioned the quality of the players PSU has gotten from the area. You sure can twist things any way you want though. Have at it. You’re right. You win the keyboard tonight. Bravo.
