I'm going to disagree with Morehead and Grayson. My biggest qualifier for redneckedness is disdain for education. Both towns have a university and some of the nicest people I've ever met.
I'll just keep quiet about the others.
Grayson will never be confused with, well, any reasonable US city, but it's not all bad.Grayson absolutely belongs on this list. There are two accents in the state that I can immediately recognize; Hazard and Grayson. The list got that part right.

On second view, this list is wrong because Williamsburg isn't on it, much less number one. Williamsburg is the only KY town I've been to that freaked me out. One minute you're driving through a beautiful, rural landscape and the next you're in a town full of "Hills Have Eyes" people. I worked with a guy who filled in as manager at a factory there for a while. His boss told him to ALWAYS carry a gun on company property.
I've got one really weird cousin who I can't even have a normal conversation with, got an academic scholly there and loved the place. To each, his own.:flushed:[laughing]
This old gal, who works with me here in TX, told me some stories about her daughter's experiences as a member of University of the Cumberlands (Cumberland College for you old-timers) volleyball team. I just smiled and said, "yeah, good old country folks. Heh."
The correct answer to this list is Irvine, KY. If you go by rebel flags per square inch then hands down Irvine is your winner.
Where is Irvine?
Martin? All 500? The town's not too redneck, but there's plenty in the area. We'll actually there's a whole lot in the area, but lots of very good people too.Any list that doesn't contain Jackson, Campton, Beatyville, Hyden, Hindman, Martin, whatever the county seat of Jackson county is, and Manchester can't be trusted. Also throw in Frenchburg and Salyersville.
You probably know it as "Irving"...Where is Irvine?
Makes me proud to live in the upscale town of Paintsville where you can choose from Ponderosa, Long Johns, Ramp B Marathon chicken or other fine dining establishments to eat. Actually, the Marathon chicken is pretty good, better than KFC.
Nicholasville at number 1 or the list is a joke.
Where did you go to high school? Paintsville or JC?
When I was there the town was dry and they had nothing there to eat except fast food restaurants and a Shoney's. Our school didn't have a cafeteria so we made our rounds to every one of those fast food chains.
Pikeville is no exception, its surrounded by rednecks which invade the city limits. People who live in town aren't bad, but the town is surrounded by them. Just go to the Wal mart.Man, there is no way that Nicholasville can beat any of the eastern Kentucky towns with Pikeville being the exception.

It's better than most EKy towns though
Prestonsburg has its share of rednecks but I would be very surprised if it's really top ten. Neither Prestonsburg or Pikeville are near what some places here are.Granted I have been to Pikeville one time in 13 years and I know they have a lot more restaurants and they're doing well but you're probably right. I grew up in Prestonsburg though and there is no way Pburg is the worst of the worst. I played ball in other parts of the state and visited certain places that was like The Hills Have Eyes.
I know you're from Floyd County, right?
No possible way. A lot of people in EKY could take a vacation to Nicholasville and think they was living the American dream.Nicholasville at number 1 or the list is a joke.
Been to them all, I wouldn't call Prestonsburg high class lol.The writer of that article or anybody in this thread has obviously never been to Phelps, PawPaw, Stone, Grapevine or Millard (I could go on). I live in Pike County and in no way is half of those places, especially Prestonsburg, the worst. Hell, Prestonsburg is considered high class in this area.
If there is such a town considered high class in EKY then Pikeville and Prestonsburg would be on the list.Been to them all, I wouldn't call Prestonsburg high class lol.
Prestonsburg High School was the most hated school in the county by the rest of the county schools, (years back). But it's far better than where you mentioned
