Every county in the state have a redneck population. The only place in Kentucky i have ever been that i have saw people that looked like they belonged on hills have eyes was my time in a town i can't remember the name of but it's about 40 miles from somerset and is all hills and the people were some weirdos. I remember pumping gas and 2 younger guys outside the gas station arguing in public about who sold the best meth.

Anyone been to Sparta in Robinson County?
It's Mayberry 2.0, nice little town. I have never been anywhere that reminds me of Mayberry more than that place.

I've not been there in several years, I hope it hasn't changed.

Prestonsburg is upscale urban compared to Jackson Breathitt county. Also no way you can have a top ten list and not put Manchester on there that town personifies redneck.
I thought Jackson would have been on that list, been wondering when/if it would be mentioned by someone.

Where did you go to high school? Paintsville or JC?

When I was there the town was dry and they had nothing there to eat except fast food restaurants and a Shoney's. Our school didn't have a cafeteria so we made our rounds to every one of those fast food chains.

my alma mater coming in at 106th -- and STILL SHOWING a Population of over 10k

I liked the old Middlesboro Wal-Mart much better than the new store.

QUESTION:Why does Someerst always neat MBoro in football when they're not any bigger of a town???? Damnit -- we always lost to Corbin too --- those are just better football schools in general I guess….

I dunno. Yellow jackets made the playoffs this past year, but were blown out. Bell County HS has fielded some strong teams over the years.

Where is Irvine?
I did not mean Irvine geographically, I know where it is. I meant where is it on the list? The few times I have been down there I've seen a couple of psycho scary people. His wife was alright though. but even she had false teeth.[smoke]

Is East Bernstadt a town or a speck on the map?

The one time I've been to Hazard I thought it looked like a nice town to live in. Was I wrong?

I hope you mean Robertson County and Sparta is in Gallatin County.

You mean Mt. Olivet in Roberson County? Near Blue Licks state park.

I'd have to put Carlisle, KY on the list. They have farm tractor parade or some ride your tractor to school day.
You can really tell how small a town is when several of the businesses are owned by the same family.

Sparta isn't far from Mt Olivet, it's only a few miles, might be just across the county line. It's been several years since I was there.

I have to agree with your post however.

Carlisle at number 1 or the list is a joke.

I grew up there, 70's-early 80's, and it was a great town to grow up in. Pikeville was considered by many as the big times, but Hazard was right there with them. One memory was when the cast of Dukes of Hazard appeared at the annual Black Gold Festival. The Black Gold also marked the annual Hazard vs Napier football game which they couldn't play at night.. ;)

Last of my family moved out of there this year for the Fla. Sadly, just not much left down there.

Sardis is up 62 toward Mason County, with a shoebox for a Post office.

One my best friends from college was from Ewing KY over in Fleming Co.
I went to his home one time , had to park on one side of a creek and walk a suspension bridge to house.

Many these small towns have just died to ease of mobility and Walmart.
I talk to my neighbor, she remissness how the small town I'm in use to have a movie theater, pool halls and such that was busy.

When you say " you were raised in marrowbone " that makes it seem like you are quite a bit older than me.

Are you still close?

be better to call that the top 10 redneck tourist towns in Kentucky - list is a joke. Benton representing far western Kentucky (Purchase region, west of Tennessee river) is ok, but to say Benton is more redneck than either the towns of Fulton or Hickman is like saying the moon is brighter than the sun.

Isn't a town named "Hickman" self explanatory?
